OP - Have you ever seen an Apple product even remotely as poorly designed as this?

Sure

Interesting story about that.... One of my friends is an electrical engineer who does antenna design. He actually met one of the guys who was involved with the RF array for the iPhone4.

Long story short, the iPhone4 design was an Apple decision, with little regard for the warnings that were given about how it would affect use/reception in the field.

Also, FYI, iPhone 4 is not the first phone to have been manufactured with a design flaw in the antenna

The ipad nano looks similar.

That's not a thing.
If you meant iPad, then no.
If you meant iPod nano, then still no.

If you want a phone like that so badly, buy that one. I agree with people that it is a unique looking phone, but that's not what makes a phone good. The world has (for the most part) moved on from phones with physical keyboards, and the trend is now a slate design: thin, large display, no sliding/flipping/swivelling/twisting

I like the phone. Interesting looking, keyboard useful. I don't know, it just..seems cool? Wouldn't buy it though. My phone's much better (Captivate).

That iPod Nano/Flipout mockup you posted...Oh heaven's no. That looks awful.

And there is no such thing as an iPad Nano. It doesn't exist. An iPad does, even then, it wouldn't have a physical keyboard. Much less one as ugly as that. The iPod Nano...it went completely touch for a reason. Not going back
