Long story short I took it in explained the problem. They told me there was no way that could've happened and its no reason to exchange it. Then told me they had NO iBooks in stock (i called ahead of time and the said they had plenty). So I raised my voice a tad and he eventually said oh I think we've found one.

Not surprised... again, Apple needs to start living up to their reputation of having good customer service. Great products... terrible service. I'm glad you got your new iBook! Great job on sticking to your ground!

Awesome, glad to hear they exchanged it for you, I would've been pissed if they didn't. I bet you're loving your new one now!!!

I can see this issue from both sides. I picked up a new iBook at an Apple store, which I drove 2 hours in order to reach—it was a sales tax holiday! The store was so busy I couldn’t open it up, so I just headed home. The iBook was flawless except for a small scratch above the Apple logo. I was pissed, but I was more concerned about dead pixels. Luckily there isn’t one dead pixel. I would take a flawless screen over a flawless case any day.

I knew that I would end up getting some scratches on the iBook even if I was careful, so I saw no need to complain. I am sure the scratch happened in packaging. You can see my comments about why the iBook scratches so easily: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/141595/
