Has anyone looked into restoring 8.6 compatibility on these later originals?
Neither of my tangerine Clamshells will run 8.6 and neither will run Mac OS X 1.x. I think the firmware for running both are interlinked, so if could be done, it would be of interest to me.

I wonder why they broke 8.6/1.x compatibility in the first place?

Time for a plot twist. So the clamshell seller hasn’t shipped since. And I impulse bought a iBook G3 plus iBook G4 lot...

The snow iBooks came. Both in good conditions. For the G3 I used the original 4 restore CDs which gave me 9.1. Not sure what to do with the system though.

Is it expected that there’s a good amount of screen tearing in Mac OS 9? I know it’s inevitable if a program couldn’t draw fast enough. Still it is more common than I expected.

I noticed it recently when I played Wolfenstein 3D on my iBook G3 under OS 9 and in Classic. Other than that I don't really notice screen tearing in OS 9 that much. Then again, maybe I've just gotten used to it.

I haven't noticed screen tearing in OS 9 either but I certainly do in Classic! It's hopeless for gaming due those kinds of issues. Either I'll play the game natively in OS 9 or look for an OS X version - as I've done with many titles in my gaming thread.

The worst offender for me is probably Classilla? Have not played games much yet. I find myself wanting to use Internet Explorer. Not as a criticism for Classilla as it is hard to support old platforms with a much newer codebase.

Got the original disks for G3 snow and re-installed 9.1 + 10.0. Not great for web browsing but I could play Bugdom at least.
