On my mini,if I use tenfourfox my mini's fans kick in big time (loud) I also find compared to safari (5.0.6 in leopard) it has major lag! Really notice this on intense sites like the Verge ect. Maybe this isn't really noticeable with you guys that have powermac G5 dp ect,but on my mini G4 1.5GHz safari with flash uninstalled really does provide me with the best overall browsing experience.

I have G4s. The primary reason I hunted down all the optimizations was the fact that (at the time) my 1.0Ghz PowerBook had a failed cache (CPU) so any optimization I could do would improve performance.

A lot of what taxes T4Fx is javascript. When it taxes the browser your CPU spikes. When your CPU spikes your fans turn on because of heat. That's another reason for NoScript. It allows you to cut out the JS you don't want on the page.

For instance, I go to Google News a lot. Because Google owns Youtube they have a lot of video links usually. Loading those links usually cripples my system and makes it very slow. So, I use a addon that blocks Youtube from ever loading and NoScript that denys any javascript loading from Youtube. I also deny Google Analytics, which is another heavy abuser for CPU.

The result is a faster and smoother loading page. Now, the one place T4Fx falls down is Flash. I have it off, period. If I want to view a site that has Flash I just usually load another browser that handles it or Mactubes.

Take a look here. :)

As to "themes," there are lots. And some while saying not compatible can forcibly installed. For instance, my theme is FTDeepDark. The dev only makes it for Windows or UNIX/Linux. But I force-installed the UNIX/Linux one and it works just fine.

Firefox had themes well before Chrome ever got on the scene. Any FF theme is compatible with T4Fx. See above about my comment on themes.

You can find all this stuff at addons.mozilla.org. Major resource there.

I'll get a breakdown of what my config file reads when I get home later in order to show some more of the optimizations.

A few addons work wonders too. AdBlockEdge, NoScript, RequestPolicy, etc. All of those can control the crap coming at your browser that bogs things down.

I'll get back to you guys. For now, that link I posted is a pretty good start.

Awesome! Thanks, it feels a bit smoother. In another topic, you said your whole OS was themed black, is there a tutorial for theming my Leopard install black? I really like FT Deep Dark and black in general.

Ah, found the black theming thread.

You can use Onyx and/or TinkerTool to shut off some features as well and gain some speed back.

The only thing that doesnt work is the status bar, its still white, but the elements are white too!
As suggested, use Onyx to turn off transparency on the menu bar. Whether your Mac supports it or not, if the menu bar is set to transparent you won't get a black menu bar.
