CoreImage does not accelerate the GUI. It accelerates image processing. GUI acceleration is done by Quartz Extreme.

Yet somehow Macs with programmable GPUs have much faster GUI

Maybe I dont know something? :(

I think your right, since they removed Quartz 2d (which I take it would be that the GUI used to run on) it runs on Core-Image on those that support it. Otherwise maybe the older macs still have Qu.... no Apple said that Tiger didn't use Quartz 2D so thats why it was removed /disabled.

That one little word MOBILITY sends everyone into a Panic. I'll contact Mr. Anderson, or another one of the administrators to edit that guide. I do the ripple effect sooooooo much on this iBook.

http://guides.macrumors.com/Core_Image this one says it's supported

I edited the guide, cause it is supported fully.

I was reading through that page and found that it says Dual 2.7 G5 has 128 MB Radeon 9650 while is has 256MB

You can login and edit it. If you have a forums account then you have a wiki account I think. So you can fix it. A lot of those guides are very misleading whereas their facts just aren't true.

Since my friend is expecting his refurbished 12" 1.33GHz iBook to arrive any day now, I'm excited to hear that it supports the ripple effect, since I've yet to see it in person. (My eMac doesn't have Core Image support.)

I don't see how the ripple requires so much freaking GPU. I have a 1st gen G4 iBook and it still has the 9200 32mb so there's no Core support of any type.

I can do amazing graphics things with my computer (like getting Ripples in World Book 200X yet I can't even get a ripple on my desktop?

Blegh.

The Ripple in Dashboard uses GPU to render it, while the one in World Book uses CPU.

"The video card is the ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 (4x AGP) with 32 MB of vRAM, not sufficient to run some Core Image effects such as the Ripple." I got this quote from the Mac Guides on this site. I do believe you guys that the iBooks do have the Ripple but why is there so much talk that iBooks do not support the Ripple?
Dude. Get it through your head. The iBooks DO have CoreImage capabalities. Wanna see the ripple?

Sorry for bad quality... to lazy

Yep, you are correct. They do have the ripple effect. My friend got his iBook in today and it has it.
