WHAT YOU DON"T KNOW ABOUT THE IBOOK

It is amazing how everyone that does not have an ibook states that an ibook with a G4 is what they need. I have a friend who has a powerbook with the g4 800mhz chip. The thing is so hot, that it freezes and shuts down. Your not going to believe this, but he puts it in the fridge(sealed in plastic) so he can work on it longer-this is true.
I have one of the new ibook G3 700mhz and i have to say that its the best Mac I have ever had. I run it and every program i have under 9.2, and it has yet to freeze or crash on me yet. I run Logic Audio Gold 4.8 on it and it runs everything fine. And best of all, it doesn't get hot.
Another thing, the 12inch is fine just for about everything you do. I use Photoshop, work on my webpages, and do everything on this bad boy.
The only complaint I have about this bad boy is that it wasn't available sooner.

Technology has made my life complicated because now i have no excuses.:)

Yeah I know what you mean. A friend of mine has a 550 PB. We decided to stay up all night, having a great Quake-Alice-Giants fest.

Turns out, after the first hour or so his powerbook starts heating up... Then at around 3 hours, the fan comes on. (I'm not sure if this is from the heat, but I am pretty sure it is) - All of a sudden we got a 70 % drop in framerates and everything was sluggish (genie effect, moving around windows, opening stuff). So we put the laptop into sleep for 30 minutes. We then woke it up again, and starting playing for another 3 hours. Everything was back to normal.

Thank god that thing was on a table. It would have melted my friends lap!

I have to disagree... I have an iBook G3 600MHz, and it _does_ get hot. When I watch a DVD, I can bake an egg on it.

k.

PS: Yeah, the 12 inch is okay, but it's not about screen size... I want more resolution... :(

I used my friends too, for 2 days. His iBook never gets as hot as my friends Powerbook.

This is very true. Last night a friend and i were playing with our laptops side by side (he has an iBook 600 w/384 and I a tibook 500 w/768), and both were perfectly adequate for OS X. The only time the G3 lagged a bit was when dabbling around in iMovie, and even then it wasn't chronic. For general activities the iBook didn't lag at all.

I fully agree with Applebesmart comment. I Just have got my new iBook700 12.1 and every thing work really smooth and fast. Even Photoshop and illustrator work just fine. Of course with a 12.1" at 1024X768 I did not expected to have as much space as on my quick silver 22" monitor but it is workable. And as the main purpose is to carry it away every where and save and edit quickly digital pics on the go I am fully satisfied. The second purpose is to use it for navigation as a chart plotter connected to my GPS and for that the size is absolutely perfect for both the car and the boat and a TiBook would much to delicate in this conditions.
I don't agree with those who have suggested higher res. On a 12.1" over 1024X768 it would become just unreadable (or is it my age...)
