ical in Tiger's a no-go too. Still no Entourage/Outlook-like integration that would actually make it useful.

I find it amusing that Apple wants ical installed along with isync, like they're trying hard to push ical knowing full well that it's not helpful to most. If it wasn't for isync, ical would have no business taking up valuable space on my HD.

I feel the same way. I feel trapped by iSync's value and having to use iCal.

(And yes, I know there are importers, etc., but no solution is clean. Plus, with my vital calendar info, I don't risk adding another point of failure.

Apple doesn't listen when it comes down to iCal. There has been a long thread about this.

The problem is obviously Steve doesn't use iCal. If he did, there is no way it would suck as bad as it does.

thats nonsense. because steve jobs might not use iCal it isnt very good? do you think he uses Logic Pro, Motion or Final Cut Pro? what about shake? i doubt steve has time to use ANY of these to their fullest capabilities....i believe you might be wrong about the reason iCal seems anemic. but i do agree with you. and by the way...MenuCalendarClock will soon be supporting ENTOURAGE wooohoo. i love this little app. a little calendar (like iCal) sits by the time in the main menu...if you click the calendar icon a calendar slides down and if you have it set to show your iCal (or entourage soon) you get a list of all your to do's and calendar events!!!!! AND if you want to ad a new event to entourage.....oops i mean iCal, you just click on the day and it automatically ads an event to your um....calender program of choice.

tried like 5 x's

Same problem here. Can't install iCal update because of permissions issue. Fixing permissions did nothing. Haven't rebooted yet though, so that may solve things.

Have you sent in your iCal feedback? That's what they need to hear, politely. ;)
Yeah, I politely feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ical.html after every 1.x.x version, asking if they could change the snooze settings.

I also can't help but ask why I would want to snooze for one minute, but not thirty.

One minute?!? :( - - :( - - :( - - - ( :p )

Is it just me, or has MacRUMORS recently turned into more of a mac NEWS site? Where is all the intrigue and the suspense of possible leaked info from Apple?

Help! Ical update - no more booting

Just did SW update - all went fine - but on reboot - it got caught in an infinite loop dropping down the top bar (with apple and where clock is) and desktop pitcure showing - but it just kept dropping down cycling rest of bar was blank (except apple on left) - running system check now - but curious if OS X has a similiar 'extention off' mode like OS 9???

Any suggestions?

Freakin' whiners!

Just kidding!

I actually like iCal a lot. I found it a lot easier to add and edit items on iCal than on Entourage, though I don't think either is as functional as Outlook.

The biggest improvement I'd like to see in iCal for Tiger: better printing. If you don't know what I'm talking about, print your monthly calendar in iCal and have a good look. You'll have a "Meeting wi" on the 12th and celebrating "David's Bir" on the 23rd. Apple can do better.

Personally, I like the integration of Entourage. I do like Mail and the other Apple programs, but I wish the integration were better. If I'm missing something, please tell me. btw, how does all of the Mail, iCal programs fit in with .mac stuff. That all confuses me. Thanks.

For fjs08,

apples answer to entourage is the trinity of Mail, Address Book and iCal.

Yes these three apps run separately, but have integration in the backround.

If you begin to type an address into Mail, it will show you all the entries you have in Address Book with those same letters, even if Address Book isn't currently running. This integration is prevalent throughout these three apps.

Even though the Apps run separately they always see each other, even when not activly running on your desktop.

I guess it is a matter of preference if you want them all to run in the same window under one name...or have them split down into separately running apps.

iSync allows you to syncronize iCal events, Address Book contacts and Safari bookmarks to your .Mac account in Cupertino (or where ever it is).
Then you can have matching data on every Mac, cell phone, iPod, PDA, etc you own.
The Safari I use at work is the same as the Safari I use at home

Now if only

Now if only Apple would let me select my send mail agent in ical. I have reminders fail to be sent because one of the servers Mail.app connects to is down and I have to click OK in the GUI. One should never use a GUI to do a simple thing like send mail. So I use <a href=http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20020921062557960&query=ical+sendmail>this hint</a> to replace mail.app with sendmail. Now my reminders get sent as long as I am on the network.

Were this only a preference so I didn't have to edit the Mail.applescript every time iCal is updated.

Ok this is the first time EVER! I got an error doing a update...

can someone explain this one to me!!!!!

Make sure you have permission to write to /tmp/501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again.

i've had it once or twice before from updates. do a reboot, and it'll work fine. it's likely some oddity with file permissions as it tries to write the update to your drive.

The description is finally available on http://www.apple.com/support/ but it doesn't have any more info than Software Update provides.

So... if 1.5.5 doesn't provide any advantages to Panther users who have 1.5.4, why is it a "required" download? ie, why does Panther even care about it? Or is Apple not telling us the whole story?

Should we expect a better integration of Mail/Address/iCal with the upcoming Tiger??? And when might that be??

SW Update weirdness

Hmmm, I tried to update iCal and somehow, between having to quit iCal and doing a bunch of other things, the update failed. Instead, I've gotten a message asking me to quit iCal before installing update. The message would not go away for more than a second before it popped up again. I restarted, still can't update (even though iCal is off), and I've gotten the message again. Somewhere, somehow, the OS has a problem. Anyone know how to reset the update? Thanks in advance.

full ack.

There are so many things one could reasonably expect from ical - yet none work. I mostly wonder why it can't import 99% of all vcal files. i mean - just about every newer mobile device can handle those - why not ical.

syncing ical between two macs

Is there a way to use iSync to sync two Macs without using .Mac? I want to have the same calendar on my iBook, iMac, and iPod. Or is Apple trying to force us to use .Mac if we want to use iCal?

Problems with iCal 1.5.5

After installing the update I had not used the calendar. Weeks later, I opened up the file only to find that calendar entries disappeared. Problem is that you can add entries to the calendar, only when you close the application and open it back up, they disappear. Found on Apple's site some similar problems. I also can no longer publish to a WebDEV server.

Anyone experiencing these problems? I am able to save the calendars by exporting them and somehow they are still there. However remembering to export them everytime is a bit of a nusance. Also, can't publish them to my server. URLs and login are fine, get a message that the server is unavailable. phpiCalendar's site is down for some reason....HELP
