Corsair, Mushkin and G.skill have solid reputations with Mac ram.

Patriot and Hyinx are a crap shoot.

    As for buying ram. Newegg.com

Really? I thought Hynix was reputable. Apple was using them a while ago and still does iirc.

Hynix is one of those ghetto korean brands of dubious reputation. Some of their ram has been fine. others have been outright disasters.

kingston and crucial have work for me. but honestly the 2011 and 2012 minis have been 98 of 100 or maybe 97 out of 100.

the 2010 minis with 8gb in the form of two 4gb sticks have been tough maybe 40 of 50 good sticks . I can research the ram and the minis since 2009 that i have added ram to. Maybe tonight I will go over the records.

Interesting. I guess that's why I never see Hynix RAM sold for retail as I do Samsung (including 8 GB modules sold on places like Ramjet and Data Memory Systems).

    okay in 2012 1600 ram

2 sets of crucial 16gb both work

8 sets of kingston standard 11cl ram 16gb all work

2 sets of kingston plug n play 9cl 8gb they work

2 sets of kingston plug n play 9cl 16gb they both work

    all the oem ram worked
    mushkin 2x 2gb 1 set
    elpidia 2x 2gb 1 set
    micron/crucial 2x 2gb 6 sets IIRC
    hynix 2x 2gb 6 sets IIRC

so in 16 mac minis from 2012 32 sets of ram work. and in fact I have a 33rd set of ram paulBeers pointed out patriot 1333 ram for 48 bucks 16gb. I have that in a 2012 mac mini and it works see screen shot.

So for my minis from 2012 it shows kingston and crucial in 16gb to be good. I always tell usa buyers use amazon to get ram as the return policy is easy just say the ram failed rember memory test. you get free return shipping and a refund.

I have used macsales for tons of stuff but not so much ram in the last few years.

I go to amazon, newegg even jr.com when they have a deal. I will track down the 2011 results but I did a lot of them.

off the top of my head GEIL had 4 sets of 16gb 1333 ram in 2011 minis 1 bad set.

I did more then 75 2011 minis I had a few bad sticks of gSkill 1333 4gb not 8gb sticks. But I need to look at the records.

oh and 1600 plug n play kingston both 8gb and 16gb kits were perfect in 2011 minis and they work at 1600 not 1333 so they were nice in that machine. A little extra boost.

Hynix is the world's second largest memory module manufacturer after Samsung so they are hardly a Korean ghetto brand. Most 2012 Macs have memory manufactured by Hynix. Apple used to use Samsung memory as well, but they are no longer friends. I am not sure who is also supplying memory, but there must be at least 1 other manufacturer, since Apple would not rely on just one supplier.

    A few questions...

    - Do any refurbished 2011 minis being sold now use Samsung memory?

    - Where are the modules from Elpida and Micron made? I believe Hynix's is Korea and Samsung's retail ones (the black 1.35v ones) are also Korea. The ones that used to ship in Macs were made in China.

THEY used to have samsung. I am getting a base 2011 and a mid 2011 this week I will let you know what is in them.

Elpida was in Japan a few years ago. Micron/crucial has multiple locations.

Just for the record, compared to Samsung RAM is nothing fancy and not a criterium I'd justify a purchase with.

Having said that, the 16GB Corsair Vengeance CL10 1600MHz kit went from $109 back to $89, while the 16GB CL11 Crucial kit costs $106 by now.
I suppose you should grab one now before the price goes up again, if you were interested in the Corsair.

    Help

I followed the crucial thread and put in my mac mini's specs (2.3 i7 late 2012) and it says this ram is not compatible.
