If Apple were to do this, it'd make it even harder to switch to the Mac when you have iTunes (iPhone, iPod support), Safari, Quicktime, and iChat running cross platform.

Very, very true. But in the end you still have to deal with ::shudder:: My Computer and Control Panels. As long as Apple doesn't give them Time Machine, there's still something to be desired.

I'm still wondering why Apple isn't creating iChat for the iPhone. AIM is there, so what gives?

9to5 posts what claims to be a screencapture of a version of iChat for Windows.

The site doesn't express a high amount of confidence in the picture, and so we post it for interest's sake. The rumor is not without precedent, as a previous page 2 rumor had pegged the introduction of a paid version of iChat AV to be introduced at Macworld San Francisco 2004.

I hope not.
Then there will be too many Mac-apps on the Windows platform and probably will persuade people not to buy a Mac anymore.

Just the opposite, giving windows the basic apps that osx has suck as ichat, itunes, quicktime and safari gives windows users a simple point of reference for how apple applications work and that they will interoperate with colleges and friends windows computers.

However the most important thing Apple needs to do i release Quicktime, iTunes and Safari for the Linux platforms which i believe would be much easier for Apple to code for due to the platform similarities and would give something back to the open source crowd.(i know they give webkit but they take so much more.)

I agree. I would like those apps on Linux too.

I definitely think this should happen...I have a couple of friends who are still stuck on pc's...it would a lot easier to communicate on the net if we all had ichat!

ive heard soo many rumors buzzing about this..however I do have to agree most with it..it does look a little photoshopped...

come on apple..develop ichat for windows for real!

Although the chances of Apple releasing a version of iChat for Vista are great, this looks really fake. I can't believe this was reported. I could have done a better mock-up than this, and I don't even have the new CS. I only have PS 7.

I know this is fake, but Apple needs to do this. Instant messaging clients are only as useful as their userbase (if they have unique features). When I get a mac I will not be using iChat, I know few others which could take advantage of its better features.

Another reason is that if you get people seeing how cool iChat is on Windows and they decide to buy a laptop, it makes Apple notebooks far more attractive because of the inbuilt iSight (which not many laptops have, as far as I know).

Of course, any port would need to be far better than Safari and iTunes.

I can't see why iChat would be useful on Windows. iTunes and Quicktime for the iPod; Safari for WebApp development, but iChat? What would be gained from it on Windows?

It would make it more useful for Mac users, because they'd be able to use the advanced features with their Windows friends?

I have long dreamed for a version of iChat on Windows with screen sharing so I can troubleshoot all my PC friends problems.

With all the current mac apps that are compatible with windows, I don't think iChat will dent the flow of PC to Mac switchers.

...and when the MSN service can't be connected using iChat anyway.

As for that image, yeah, it looks horribly Photoshopped. As a recent switcher to Mac from a PC where I regularly used both iTunes and Safari for Windows, they've gotten the look of the title bar and menu horrible wrong; it looks so out of place compared to not only the rest of the "program", but also when compared to iTunes and Safari.

that would be awesome...I have tons of friends who still use pc's being able to screen share with them to help them through issues would be cool

Sooooooooo Fake

Check the name of the icon at the Desktop: it says "ichat"! The c is not capital like iTunes and iChat like almost everything apple produces(from iPhone, iPod to iPhoto, iMovie etc.)!

Why does that matter to you (the consumer) what other people buy. That'd just be a poor business decision on apple's part, so it should only matter to them.

iChat in principle might be a good way of video chatting between PCs and Macs. Currently, Skype is the only solution that really works but, unfortunately, some companies prohibit Skype on their computers.

it would be nice. It would move many of iChats video features from gimicy to funtional. Right now while iChat has great video chat most of those features are relatively useless with 90% of the world using something else. If windows where to have it the video chating built into ichat would be useful.
