That's one very unconvincing fake.

That said, I'd be surprised if iChat didn't come to windows at some point.

Interesting find!!!

Doing some searching on the new App Store i stumbled across this:

If you look at the third bullet point you will see that it mentions a version of iChat for windows. The exact wording is "Your changes are automatically synced with iChat and for Windows or Mac."

Interesting find and i think i could point to a release of iChat for windows soon.

I'm also running Pidgin with ichat sounds, it is still short of the real deal.

Apple generally doesn't sell software for PC unless it can result in some sort of recurring revenue. Essentially there is no profit in simply distributing a free or paid chat app unless you make more money off..? advertising.?.. No way.

Looks like somebody got fancy with a screen capture and virtualization. I can put my iChat window on top of my virtualized Windows session and get the same results.

iChat is free

Rival for MS ? i don't think so!

MSN is free
Hotmail is free
Windows Live apps are free incl Live gallery very similar to iPhoto

.Mac = 99 USD
iChat = ???? USD i doubt it will be free with the leopard functionality

my 2cents..... Apple should stick with mac computers and stop creating windows versions of their apps which justndont work good and do not feel right...

Your 2 cents are worthless here. iChat has been free and remains free. Once your 'trial' period for iChat is over, you are under no obligation to continue to buy .Mac, or buy into it in the first place. And your iChat account remains active, and free. On Panther. On Tiger. On Leopard. Been using it for years ... works well with my MSN and AOL Windows clients and friends, works great with my Mac friends. Your assumptions are wrong, and your assessment is wrong.

i think it whould be a great i deal for MAC to bring a version of ICHAT out for windows for the same resone windows releases almost all of its software to other operateing systems is that if some one run mac or a version of linux downlodes IE8 ( which suxs) and they like it they start to thing about ofther microsoft stuff suck as word and msn and start to think well if i like microsft software i must like there os so if mac realeses a littel more mac software thats free to mac users to windows use ( and mabey take some things out of the software for windows users to make them want the mac version) the windows users out there (which is more than hafe of computer users cas of apple not selling in retail stores such as walmart ect ) are going to start thing well iam love this ichat but it says here some featers are disabled to me cas i have a windows rig mabey i should try out mac this may and may not work but if it does (which i have seen this type of move work several times ) windows user whould go down which any one who use mac will nvr go back so just think about all the bonuses mac get from share there software to more than just mac users and the same resone y windows shares nearly all its software

I want it not for myself but my PC friends who would never purchase a mac, granted it would probably be just as hard to get them onto ichat but if I could then I could kiss MSN goodbye once and for all!

Your friends can use AIM, which uses shares the same protocol with iChat. This has been know for years and years. This is not new stuff.

Problem solved.

If Apple were to do this, it'd make it even harder to switch to the Mac when you have iTunes (iPhone, iPod support), Safari, Quicktime, and iChat running cross platform.

It is only a matter of time, when Apple will port their pro apps (read: Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, etc.) and SOHO apps, like iWork to Windows. You'll see.

Every one of those software products either helps sell things or helps develop things. iTunes sells music and iPods. Quicktime has a pro version that costs $$ and also has its own standard, which apple needs to get out there. And Safari was released for developers. iChat has none of that, especially with no more iSight. iChat runs on AOL and .mac, but .mac isn't going to be much use to a PC user unless they also have a mac.

I don't agree with your argument. QT was released for Windows in order for it to become a major competitor in the media player market. If QT was only available on a Mac, very very few internet sites would use the format and it would fall to WM, Real, and Flash. It has nothing to do with the little $20 pro version.

Same with Safari. If only Mac people use Safari, then no developers would code their websites to work with Safari. Yes, it relates to developers, but not in the way you imply. The goal is market share. Once Safari gains enough market share, then it will get the attention from developers that Apple wants. Residing on the Windows platform in addition to the Mac platform is allowing Safari to approach that market share level much faster.

Have you ever tried to video chat with someone not using iChat? It's sporadic at best. Not to mention that you can't video conference with multiple people unless they all have iChat. I think opening iChat up to Windows would do a lot to increase the market share of the program.

I agree with all but the point on Safari. Rather than increase the market share of Safari itself, I think Apple's motivation was to push web standards compliant browsers in to people's homes. It is of fundamental importance to Apple that websites are coded in a standards compliant way.

Remember what happened to Netscape? If developers are ever tempted to write platform-specific code, they'll exclude users of minority platforms like Mac OS from the web, which would be a serious blow to Apple's product portfolio.

I agree with the standards compliance part.
Still, I can't see why Apple would need to port their own browser over.

FireFox is already there and promoting standards compliance (as opposed to IE-proprietary solutions), isn't it?

Can PC users see the ichat effects?

Ok so when I get my Mac will my PC buddies be able to see my effects (like pop art) on their chat (AIM)?

It doesn't even require photoshop...

Just open XP in parallels, and then iChat on top...
