General iCloud and eMail Client Issues

I am having an intermittent problems downloading emails to my iMac Desktop with my Apple mail client.

Sometimes it works, and on other times the small triangle appears showing a connection problem (during which time mails will arrive but cannot be sent) and then times when the triangles goes away and Mails can be received and/or sent.

There was a time when deleting redundant mails for all mail boxes both desktop and server side would temporarily fix this problem but it just comes back, thus I have never got to the route of the problem.

My local router and ISP are fine, my SSL up to date, DNS is fine, but I did have to apply to iCloud for a random IP Ban recently which may still be in play although that is not intermitently applied.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
