What does "Lion Recovery Update" do, anyway?

----------

This will definitely make my work afternoon go MUCH faster: watching Software Update on my Air for 2+ hours.

Earlier today, iCloud.com still wouldn't let me transfer from MobileMe, but just now it finally did let me complete the transfer. Nice to see (though I don't even really need it) that you can move without losing the iWeb hosting and other features, only some of the syncing features.

I'm very pleased that someone was finally able to do this. It gives me hope that maybe, at some point, in the next 48 hours, I'll be able to do it, too.

Seems the AppleID management page is acting a little screwy atm. maybe being updated for MobileMe transitions or account merging.

I have my appleID set to use a username rather than email address and over the pst few days saw iOS 5 has been demanding i use an email address instead of username for various sign ins.

so does it move your contacts and calendar over to iCloud?

Started updating at 6pm, got to about 23 minutes left and accidently pulled the power out of the mac mini. Now i got to start all over again, saying 50 minutes :(

DO NOT DO IT!

I was thinking about the same thing but then I realised that it would be just stupid.
The thing is that the iCloud ID is now associated with so many things apart from email and iTunes/AppStore password that I wouldn't want to share it with my wife for any purchases whatsoever.

So, what I understand is that I can keep making purchases on my Gmail account and use iCloud for all the other stuff; whether its Mail/Contacts/Calendar/Documents/Backup/PhotoStream/Sharing, etc.

This gives me the freedom to use my own content personally without anyone having to disable those options in settings.
Apple may introduce a feature in the future to share one's own PhotoStream with another iCloud account; so that could work.

But for now, its in the best interest to keep different accounts for Purchases and Personal Content; works for me. :)
This actually works best for me. I was pissed I couldn't merge them into one ID. But this will work best for my wife and I to have separate clouds (non iTunes) and still share purchases through one iTunes account.

I was planning on holding out until I could merge accounts. But I may give it a whirl. If nothing else, I can reserve a me.com address for my wife.

Mail works great on the browser app but on the Mail app I can only receive. Sending does not work.

Any advice?

For what it is worth, here's a little update:

I went to the Apple store to play "hands on" with a device that had iOS5 on it. They had an iPad there with iOS5 already on it.

Long story short, there are three different IDs you use for iTunes, iCloud, and iMessage. So you can easily share an iTunes account to simplify purchases while still having a second (or even third ID) for the cloud and iMessages.

While it is still annoying I can't move my gmail iTunes to my mobile me, the flexibility I describe above makes me very happy. My wife and I can keep our iTunes and email with out shared accounts. At the same time we can have our individual IDs for iMessage. Excellent.

Installing iOS5 on my 3GS now.

Now hurry up and start selling unlocked 4S! :)
