What do you mean get them offline. All my files are available offline in dropbox. I can access any file on my laptop regardless if I'm connected to the net.

After your post , you had me doubting so I put my phone in Airplane mode and sur enough , I can't access files , they will not open .

If I star a file ( Favorite ) , it will open even if not connected . Airplane or other .
Sometime when abroad , I might not be on WiFi or have a cell connection . I always keep passport and travel documents stared .

The question I am asking is about iPhone and/or iPad .

PS :In some way we are both right . I can open photos when offline but not PDFs

Each has its strength.

Dropbox - For pure file storage, access and sync.

OneDrive - Best for photo storage/viewing (nice square thumbnails on the side and apps, no wasted space), document editing.

Google Drive- Document editing and collaboration.

Also, Apple charges $3.99 per month for 200GB storage, while Dropbox charges $19.99 per month? What the HECK is going on with you people Dropbox!

I think Dropbox is still the premium service because they're syncing software works very well and also they were first to capture the market.

I'm still a Dropbox subscriber and it's because their syncing software works so well. I also have 100GB of Google Drive (Chromebook promotion), and the syncing software doesn't work well (at least the OS X version) and I only use that for files I want to archive. I use Dropbox for files I am actively working with. I am constantly eyeing other options, though. If iCloud Drive syncing works really well, I could see myself ditching Dropbox, especially if Dropbox's pricing doesn't change. I suspect they will have to sweeten their deal to compete; either offer more storage for the same prices or reduce prices.

Pretty much verbatim what I would say. Also want to see how sending links to others work in iCloud drive too. That works so well and easy in DropBox it would be hard to leave.

Better integration for their apps. So if you're fully into apple this makes synchronizing your data so much easier.

I don't know. I think iOS 8 Extensions will allow for much tighter integration with thid party services.

99¢-$3.99month or $12.88 - $47.88/yr is a big jump. I don't need 200GB but 50GB would be perfect once I outgrow 20GB. Not everyone has allot of money. I am living on an ultra tight budget so $3/month extra is allot of money to me. and I don't eat out, get coffee etc.

iCloud Drive Sharing????

In our house, we share files by storing them in DropBox - both Apple App files (i.e. Numbers) and 3rd party files such as Quicken. Does any one know if the new iCloud drive which will allow 3rd party file storage, will also allow file sharing. By this I am not talking about having to logout of my iCloud Account and login to an family members account - I want something fast and easy.

Totally agree and really do hope you can store / configure local space on iOS!!!

My only fear is that third party apps dont embrace it, especially MS Office on iOS which is valuable to tons of people. They are pushing the One Drive thing so hard that I fear they will not allow iCloud Drive integration somehow

I just realized too that in addition to iWork app folders within iCloud Drive they show folders for other apps took including Goodreader. Wow.

Maybe Apple will put a hook for One Drive in as well. Or I guess that's something MSFT would have to provide for... Does MSFT currently allow any other apps to access one drive?

If they would just add a basic "Open In" functionality that is present in even the most basic apps, you could at least have a straightforward, though annoying workaround.

Right now the only way to get an Office document into another app is to use the oneDrive app after syncing or mail it as an attachment and then open it from Mail. I shouldn't need two apps to do this.

Looks like it will for me.

Perhaps, but if you're an office for iPad user, you have 45GB of storage, which is far superior to iCloud's free 5GB. What I mean by that is you get 20 free, plus as a office 365 subscriber you get another 25GB of storage. Why pay for more iCloud storage when you already have more.

I don't see any advantages in my situation for using the iCloud drive, thanks to bing rewards I've upped my OneDrive to 145GB of storage. Way more then I'll have need.

Possibly throwing a spanner in, have you considered hosting your ownCloud server or paying for one of the hosted private cloud servers which at least claim to respect privacy etc. seacloud is another one starting to gain some support too.

I didn't read the whole topic but i have a question.

Will iCloud drive support folder and file sharing, just like in dropbox ?

I mean shared folder with other people. So the participants can upload, delete, view, edit the file in that folder.

Good question, I don't think I've read anywhere that you can, so if I was a betting man, I'd say no.

Pretty crazy comparison. I fear for Dropbox's future with their ultra-premium pricing model that puts even Apples 'tax' on their hardware to shame.

That's what I don't like since my iCloud storage is used up with email and backups. I'd have to go and buy more storage which makes no sense to me, since I have a 145GB of online storage with OneDrive (25 free, 20 with my Office 365 subscription and 100 thanks to bing rewards).

How did you get 100GB through Bing Rewards? Is that 100GB of storage "free for life"?

----------

For now I'll stick with Google Drive because I got 130GB of storage for free.

If I ever obtained near that amount on iCloud Drive, I might make the switch.

How did you get 130GB for free from Google?

----------

As long as it's not a complete bear to integrate into apps, I'm sure the vast majority of apps will support iCloud Drive. Adoption will probably take a little bit of time, but if you're an iOS developer, why would you not provide support for an iOS-tailored cloud interface knowing that a large number of your users are going to want it?

This is actually a very exciting development because it means we should finally be able to attach multiple files to emails and other routine tasks that up to now have been impossible without stupid workarounds. I still want to run it through its paces before I'm a believer, but I'm very excited about iCloud Drive. The pricing is phenomenal as well. I wish they'd have a few more tiers in between 20GB and 200GB though.

I agree. I'm also glad that they're planning a 1TB option. Most people won't need it, but it's still good to have it for the people that want it. It would be great, if they offer a 10TB option just like Google is doing.

yep, bing rewards. I needed to "buy" the 100gb with 100 points. As I get closer to when it expires, I'll cash in more of my points for the 100gb offer again.

For a min. there, I thought you got the 100GB for life.

I do like how the prices are starting to come down in all of the cloud storage options, I really like Dropbox but I cant see spending $10 a month for the storage.

I really wish there was a way to not have to do a subscription though. Like spend $10 for 50gb for life or something like that. I know it wont happen, its not the best business model to keep bringing in cash, but I just think it would be nice to not have to continually pay.
