I have spent two days Googling for solutions and I have tried varies fixes and I'm simply stumped. I've used Apple Notes since iOS 9 with no issue. I restored both my iPhone and iPad with a clean install of iOS 10. This may be a coincidence, but after that restore my notes starts syncing hit or miss (occasionally one note may sync really late).

Now this is the current situation: notes created on my Mac, iPhone, or iPad never sync to iCloud, but if I enter in a note directly on iCloud.com it appears on all my device instantly. Syncing is only working from iCloud to device, not device to iCloud.

I have:
  • Toggled notes in iCloud on all my devices multiple times and restarted my devices (I restarted my phone 8 times across two days).
  • I completely signed out of iCloud and signed back in. No fix.

I worried that the clean install may have done it, but my Mac was syncing fine until yesterday and I didn't do anything there. Does anyone have any advice? I rely on this app heavily and this is maddening.

That happened to my wife's system too.

I spent quite a bit of time poking around and while I don't remember the specific remedy, I do remember it had something to do with her icloud account setting on my macbook air. She was using gmail notes with notes.app too and that contributed to it. Sorry I don't have the specifics but it might give you some ideas of what to search on the net for.

That was an interesting thought. I enabled my school gmail account to see if that started anything and will look into it, but I just checked Apple System Status less than a minute ago and saw this:

Screen Shot 2016-11-16 at 11.02.21 PM.png

Several of their services are down. I checked this multiple times last night and today and this is the first time it has reflected anything, but I don't trust Apple to keep this real-time. I guess I'm one of the "less than 0.01% of users affected." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This stuff happens, but I wish Apple would be more forward with outages so people don't waste their time troubleshooting.

*sigh*

Apple says the outage is fixed, but my notes still do not work.
That behavior is not a result of an iCloud outage.

The following sounds vaguely familiar as one of the steps that I tried to resolve the notes syncing issue (notes come down from cloud to macbook, but not up to the cloud) that my wife experienced.

From:
http://apple.stackexchange.com/ques...syncing-to-and-from-icloud-from-os-x-yosemite

"To resolve this, what I've done in the past is delete the container that the app in question lives in and start again.
e.g. in your case.. notes lives in: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes
Problem is, when you do this, you probably will lose the notes you have... The ones which are already in iCloud will resend back down to the Mac you deleted the notes Container from."

That did not work either, but I really appreciate your help. I'm on hold with Apple Care and they said they might have to refer me to an engineer as not event he senior can figure it out. On there side, my devices are syncing to iCloud with each note (we made test notes), but these note simply aren't appearing on iCloud.com and, thus, are not being pushed to my devices. All other iCloud functions work. *sign*

It's funny how you can use a service for over a year with no problem and then get one problem and then you're like "I hate this junk!"
[doublepost=1479412678][/doublepost]

They've sent it along to an engineer two interesting things though. They said that there is a group of users reporting an identical issue and that Apple is preparing a trouble shooting article, so I guess this isn't some random isolated incident.

Also, the senior mentioned that the best way to "nudge" iCloud to sync is to plug in your devices and then light up the lock screen. When the device is connected to Wifi, charging, locked, and lit up apparently is super active state. Of course I have already done that though.

If you have Apple Care call them so that they put you on a list of affect accounts. This is a growing issue that is being submitted to their engineers. It has to be fixed on the server/account software side.

I am on phone with Apple Care now as I have same issue - pointing them to this thread.

Good night.
I'm facing this issue since Thursday night (17/11). I call to Apple support on Friday (18/11) and I'm still waiting some answer about this issue/bug on my account in Apple iCloud Notes.
On Thurday night the problem was only in my iPhone 7 Plus Notes. On Friday night the problem affect my Macbook Pro too. Now just sync if I add or change some note in iCloud.com. If I add or change some note using my iPhone or Macbook Pro, nothing happens. :(

I also started encountering this exact issue Thursday night. Like OP described, none of my notes sync when created on my iPhone and Mac, but they sync when created on iCloud.com. I spoke with Apple Care, and engineering requested that I perform a series of steps to generate the logs that they need to diagnose the issue. I sent them over the other day and I'm waiting to hear back. The senior advisor over the phone told me that several others are experiencing the same problem.

Well, I had to submit Mac, iPhone, and iPad logs today to the engineers. Now I'm waiting for them to get back to me.

I am having exactly the same problem.
In my case the new MacBook Pro is only receiving data

But for me it is much worse:

If I edit a note concurrently on a Mac, iPhone, iPad the following is happening:

all changes from the iPhone and iPad are synced seamlessly- so changes are displayed on all devices as it should work.
If I edit a note on the non syncing MacBook, the changes are not distributed to the other devices. -----> This generates a total mess. Inconstant notest

Now next --> Collaboration

If I go into the collaboration in Pages - sharing a document for concurrent - NOTING works.

For Apple Notes I found a workaround:
I created another note-innstance in an IMAP account.
If I edit notes in this account all changes are distributed to all other devices.
(but I cannot edit a note on various devices concurrently - Okay I can live with it)

--> It seems like ALL collaboration features on iCloud are affected (at least for me)
So I have to stay away from Apple Notes, Pages, Numbers, Keynote!!!!!!

Has anyone of you gotten any feedback from Apple?

Having the same issue here. After purchasing new MacBook Pro (Touchbar / 15"), notes would sync down from iCloud, but not up from the MacBook. However, notes were still syncing up from iPhone 7 to iCloud and down to Macbook. In an attempt to fix it, I signed out from iCloud on both devices and signed back in. Now notes will not sync up from *either* device, but are still syncing down from iCloud (either old notes or new notes created via web UI) correctly.

Called Apple and they had me re-do the sign-out/in as well as deleting ~/Library/Caches and rebooting. Didn't work. We also tried creating a new user account on the MacBook and syncing from there. Didn't work. He said next step was reinstalling OS on both devices & I declined because seriously?

At this point I will discontinue using Notes & hopefully Apple can fix this in future OS updates.

I ended up pasting all of my notes into Text Editor, deleting all from the Notes app - finally pasting everything back.
Yesterday evening, all the iCal activities in a shared calendar were duplicated in my own calendar. Huh?

At this moment, I still rely on iCloud for my Reminders. Giving it until the end of the year, but I'm seriously considering to drop everything that's even remotely connected with iCloud.

Looks like Apple doesn't have the faintest idea about cloud services. MobileMe all over again baby :D

A temporary fix is to move all (new) notes from iCloud to an iMAP account.

And when Apple has fixed it you just move it back to iCloud...

Filed a bug in Apple bug reporter: #29393071

So lets see

My wife has been having a problem with our shared Reminders list getting push updates. She has had to manually sync Reminders to get changes from my mac or iPhone to appear on her iPhone (not sure if this applies to her mac as well). Do you think the Notes sync issue and our Reminders sync issue are related?

We have tried deleting the shared Reminders lists and recreating them. We have also signed out of iCloud and back in. Neither of those actions cleared up the problem. I think this has just been going on since the iOS 10 update. I have had not had this issue with my iPhone which is iOS 10.

I have the same problem, previously it was one way syncing exactly the same like what the thread starter described. But two days ago it got worse and the sync totally stopped.

My other device like iPhone can sync notes without any problems.

Have called Apple Support and we spent hours troubleshoot today but still cannot figure it out. The case has been transferred to their iCloud team and see how it goes.

I just came off the phone with Apple support - no updates yet and apparently still with iCloud techs.

I'm still facing sync problems with my iCloud Notes. My last call was Friday when I run a lot of tests in all my Apple devices using my iCloud account and after that I sent all the log files to Apple Engineer team. I'm waiting for them...
