"One seamless library" sounds cool but at the moment I've got iCloud photo library turned on on both my iPhone and iPad... but I see different photos on each? Some are the same but others are only on one device and not the other. For example the photo I took an hour ago on my phone is yet to appear on my iPad. Strange.

UPDATE: it all just synced suddenly.

I have been wondering... How do you organize your photos once you enable iCloud Library? 2500 photos rolled in but I can't sort to albums on the Photos tab, and on the Albums tab, I can only sort the pictures that reside in the Recently added smart folder, which is like 10% of the pics.

Nvm, found it.

So, I never used Photo Stream because it scared me. Can you *choose* what goes into it instead of anything you take automatically going into it? If so, I like that idea (great for sharing photos with family/friends/sig other) and might turn it back on and use it over iCloud Library.

No seriously, how do I access photostream from my phone? How can I add photos to my computer, for them to show up on my phone?

Does anyone know if you have the photo set to optimize photos and you message/email them, will it send the original quality or optimized copy?

Your personal photostream is automatic. Everything you take is uploaded up to 1000 photos. After that the oldest photos disappear from the stream. However, you can set up SHARED streams that let you choose what goes in them, and creates almost a little private social network between the people that you choose to share the stream with. It's an awesome feature.

"My Photo Stream" seems to be gone regardless of the iCloud Photos setting.

My other shared streams are still there, as well as all the photos on my camera roll, but I don't see any photos from my previous My Photo Stream. The only photos showing up in "moments" are camera roll photos and Shared Photostreams.

This is what I mean. Images from existing Photo Streams, seems to have been deleted.

iCloud Photo Library vs Photo Stream

I also found iCloud photo sharing is very confusing. You click on the shared option, add emails and then it doesn't take you to the photos or who can view options.

Sharing takes a very long time to update the UI after creating or modifying a shared stream. Just add a few people and look at it after several minutes.

I tried that, but it sends the link before you have a chance to add photos. Thanks

It doesn't matter. Once the shared stream shows up in the UI you can add photos to it anytime. The recipients will always see the latest photos.

What's odd, I sent a test to my Outlook and Gmail account.
The email never makes it to Outlook, but it does to my Gmail address. Yet in Gmail, I get this instead.
Time for work, I will work on this later, I appreciate your help. Thanks

The images from all my other shared streams are still there. What's missing are all the previous images that were downloaded via My Photo Stream.

Since I did a full backup via iTunes and restored, I would have though all existing images on the device would be included. I did get all my photo roll images back but not the My Photo Stream cached images.

That's why, IMHO. It's much easier to use One Drive, Dropbox, or whatever cloud storage you choose.
I find sharing a lot easier, and at least you can see everything you have saved.
I hope when iCloud Drive is implemented.
It will be a lot less painless to use, and a better competitor for the other Cloud services.
I also just discovered, One Drive upped my storage to 30GB's, so that was a nice surprise.

I don't think photo stream was meant to be a long-term storage. It was basically an easy way to transfer newly taken photos from one device to another. It even worked for copying photos to iPhoto on a Mac.

One huge problem with photostream is that it didn't store videos. I hope this changes. I can't wait for the new Mac photos app so I never have to plug in my phone to the Mac again.

It appears most are still under the Photostream model. What's not clear is if these photos will delete themselves after 30 days if I don't bring them on to my iMac (via Image Capture or iPhoto) or if it'll stay in the cloud as the iCloud Photo Library suggests, even though I don't have that option. Since the new Photos app is both the cloud and local, I hope people don't start getting their photos auto-deleted thinking they are safe somewhere in Appel's cloud.

iCloud Photo Library is only available if your account is a developer account. Everyone else is on the same old Photostream with the 30 day 1000 photo limit. You need to import them into iPhoto (it does this automatically by default) or your Windows PC.

Once iCloud Photo Library is enabled, it will presumably function like OneDrive Camera Backup where they just go to a folder on iCloud Drive forever.

This is normal and how Photostream always functioned. If you have a Mac, iPhoto would have automatically imported them to the local library.

Shared photo streams are forever but only store low quality photos. You still need to backup the original quality image from My Photostream.

I may stand corrected. The Mac might have iPhoto. But with the recent upgrade to IOS 8. IPhoto and several what was once free apps are now no longer available on the iPhone.
They might be on the new iPhone 6, but on the 5 and down it is not.
It's kind of disappointing, if I wanted to share several photos.
I used to use iPhoto on my 5C. Hopefully, we will see bigger and better things on IOS 8.

You can still share photos with shared photo streams. iPhoto for iOS is obsolete. It was purely an editing tool which has now been integrated into the Photos app.

I thought photostream was dead. This is a confusing mess.

Shared streams and Photostream are different things. Right now both are alive. Photostream will soon be dead when iCloud Photo Library launches. iPhoto is dead since its been integrated into the Photos app.

Question;

I have about 5000 pictures on iPhoto on my Mac, now that I'm using the 200 gb iCloud Drive plan, I would like to be able to see them all on all my iOS devices. How do I send them to iCloud photo library? Do I drag them all from the library section on iPhoto to the photo stream section? And have them upload? I understand videos will sync too but not on iPhoto until 2015.

ps; is iCloud photo library even available yet? theres supposed to be an option under photos on iOS settings; "Optimize iPhone Storage" which i don't see.

This got messier than I thought it would be.
