I have restored from a 6s Plus backup onto my new X (256), and everything is fine except that none of my photos are loading or accessible.

I am pretty sure when I did the same restore from iCloud backup in the past, I got access to all of my iCloud photos.

If I go to iCloud.com, I can still see all 21,000 or so photos, but they won’t load on the new phone.
Have looked online and changed the settings up following all guides but still nothing.
Here are my settings (on both X and the 6S plus):

Nothing in Photos except what I’ve just taken:

Updated both phones to 10.1, made a new backup from the 6s Plus, wiped the X and restored from the new backup. Same deal.

What gives? Is there a way to force it to download/gain access to my photos?

@mcdj is probably right. I recently helped a family member restore an accidentally erased iPad from an iCloud backup and her iCloud photo library was not there right away.

I happened to speak with an Apple rep about this while dealing with an activation issue (since solved) and he said that it's the last thing put on the phone, whether restoring from a back up, or just setting up iCloud and turning on the iCloud photos library. After all other apps, etc.

That said, my phone is now "done" except for the photo library, so we'll see.

I’m having the same issue. It just says updating. Everything else, including music, is all downloaded and ready to go. Never had it take this long. I know it usually is the last to download but everything else is already done. It still shows updating so I’ll give it some time but let me know how everyone else’s is coming along.

Same thing here. I've had the phone for a few hours now.

I actually called about this. Apparently since my photos are on my Mac and in iCloud.com, they're there. It's just taking time to resync everything back. I've never had an issue before. It's just there's an issue with this today for everyone.

Oh yeah. Same. I meant it started synchronized no and shows everything there to be downloaded.

Still no joy for me. It's charging and everything else seems to have already downloaded.

I left home Wifi and it started. I think it needs to be charged right after or toggled off the current network.

Having this issue too—glad I'm not the only one. They could just put "loading" or "waiting to restore photos" and we'd all be a lot more patient.

I am having a similar problem in the UK. My backup to the cloud is taking hours. If I dont back my photo library up, it goes straight through but if i include photos, its taking an age. Servers being hammered perhaps??

yep, that seems to be the consensus right now. No way around it but to let it do it's thing. Overnight and you wouldn't have noticed. I knew cause I was missing all my October photos.

Update: finally after 4.5 hours, everything is back.

Mine finally started appearing when I moved from a lightning connector connected to my iMac to one connected to a wall charger. The phone *was* charging while connected to the computer, but maybe it needed/wanted a "real" charger to kick in?

I'm up to 5000+ out of 35000 (!!) after a couple minutes, using the 'optimize for phone' setting.

I found changing to optimise storage will help them come down. Once they all loaded I switched it back and they downloaded

I setup as a new device, but it took anew hours for my device to download my pictures and videos. I’m guessing the servers are experiencing the bottleneck effect.

Thanks so much, everything worked out fine! Just as you all said.
