Yup, this has been super unreliable for me for a few days and at first I thought it was the internet, had to turn it off to get back to normal

Private Relay was acting funny for me as of yesterday here in New York State.

Oh well, a little while without it should not cause any big issues. I trust Apple to get this fixed pretty quickly.

:apple:

Seems to be getting worse. It was broken this morning for my partner but working fine for me. Then mine stopped working in the afternoon. Still down for both of us this evening in the UK.

Down for me in NZ - has been playing up for 3 days now, on and off for both iOS and MacOS running hardware on current versions.

This is honestly getting a little concerning. I know apple isn't much for communicating, but they should at least give an ETA on fixing it.

Posted using my own home DSL IP address (please don't sell it to the ad exchanges MacRumors!)

Apple’s iCloud Private Relay service is down for some users, according to Apple’s System Status page. Apple says that the iCloud Private Relay service may be slow or unavailable.

The outage started at 2:34 p.m. Eastern Time, but it does not appear to be affecting all iCloud users. Some impacted users are unable to browse the web without turning iCloud Private Relay off, while others are seeing slow loading times.

We'll update this article when the outage has been resolved.

Day 2 being down for me. Though on my iPhone, it’s hit or miss. Safari on my Mac has been completely unusable for both days.

It's been a bit erratic for several weeks now - websites serving you versions based upon the wrong continent etc and content just not loading at all with it on.
Most devices telling me it will be working tomorrow

I don’t use Private Relay but in iCloud Mail, as someone mentioned above, images in messages are not downloaded unless you tap “Load Content”. 2 days ago this was affecting all devices, yesterday they must have corrected it as it was fixed on both my phone and ipad; today it’s affecting my phone but not my ipad. I see that PR is still shown as an issue on the System Status page so I’ve assumed what I’m seeing is related even though PR has never been used.

Since this morning I've been getting this message on Mac Mail… since I haven't changed anything in my settings I hope that this private relay outage might be to blame.

That’s what I was getting on messages on all devices 2 days ago. Seemed fixed yesterday but today it’s back on my phone but not on my ipad. It’s affected both of my wife’s devices even though neither of us use PR.

This is what I see on my phone, but not on my ipad this morning. All images load on the ipad.

My Mac fixed itself while sleeping and not connected to the internet. It announced that Private Relay was working again the moment I opened the lid and before connecting to a network. This indicates to me that this was a time sensitive bug of sorts that was pushed out to machines and not a network condition at all. Sonoma 14.5.

But now intermittently broken on iPhone 🤦‍♀️

And..fixed for me again just now on both phone and iPad. Looks like this may continue for a while.

It’s on but been extremely slow for me today, some websites don’t load at all. Think I’ll just keep it disabled for now.

something is still messed up. safari broke on various computers around the house late last week, but our iphones continued to work OK with private relay. then this morning my macbook said it was offline and would start working tomorrow... and then my iphone gave the same message a few minutes ago. this is all morning pacific time on 7/28/2024.

rebooting the iphone and the macbook seems to have fixed the problem... very strange though.

The trick worked till yesterday. Now my Mac refuses to use private relay: keeps repeating after each reboot
Your Mac will be able to use Private Relay again tomorrow
🙄
It works, so far on iPad and iPhone

P.s. system status says it has been resolved. Probably for everyone else …but me sigh

It‘s unusual, rather than strange.

Private Relay depends on functioning connectivity and operation a couple of relay server to encrypt DNS records and manage traffic. Third party trusted servers are involved as well as Apple servers. There are a few things that can break along the way. An established new connection - e.g. from a different or rebooted device - can get lucky or unlucky when connecting to a temporarily flaky service.

well whether it is strange or unusual, it is still broken for me. my desktop machine spontaneously told me ICPR was available last night and when i woke up this morning i had a notification saying it was off again until tomorrow. have not rebooted this machine yet.

Still without since yesterday again Today it should had been fixed but I get, again
Till Tomorrow
I found this on https://9to5mac.com/2024/07/29/icloud-private-relay-outage-2/

The outage lasted a very long time, with Apple’s status page not showing it resolved until the early hours of Sunday morning.

iCloud Private Relay – Resolved Issue
07/25/2024, 7:34 PM – Yesterday, 3:59 AM
Some users were affected
This service may have been slow or unavailable.
In Apple terminology, “a few” users affected means quite a lot, while “some” means a great many.

XCode Cloud issues remain

It’s unclear whether the problem is related, but developers have been reporting that XCode Cloud has been experiencing problems since Friday, and that the issue is not yet resolved.”

I guess we are the lucky ones
A very strange thing happens though : even if I’m disconnected from internet and play the PRelay on and off , I get the notification …till tomorrow
At this point it’s my computer that has some preference stuck on no PRelay
