iCloud Shared Album 5000 Image Limit in iOS 27 Removed?

Please, can anyone who currently has a shared album at the 5000 image limit tell me if this limit was removed in iOS 27? I read that images are full resolution now and just use your iCloud storage, but didn’t know if there was still a limit.

I just hit the limit for the first time, in a shared album with parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles that we started over 12 years ago posting photos of our kids when my daughter was born. I’d rather not setup a second album, and wondered if I switched to the beta if I could keep it going as one continuous feed showcasing their entire childhood.

It’s a huge pain trying to help get all these old people around the country onto the new shared album, and I’d like to keep everything together.

there are pros and cons for this shared album change, the owner the album can decide to upgrade the shared album once the owner is on iOS 27

the pros are: no more 5,000 limit, full resolution etc
the cons are: it uses the owner's iCloud storage

Thanks. I may go ahead and upgrade, then, as probably 95% of the photos are already in our iCloud family storage, so it should just pull from those. Then I suppose the additional data would be photos that family outside of our plan have added at things like holidays and birthdays?

Related, is there a way to downgrade an album or create an iOS 26 compatible shared album? Not being able to create shared albums on iOS 27 is not great.
