Definitley a purchase for me!

The book should be titled

iConic

No! Bad idea.

Apple has much more history, products and inovation that predate the iProduct era. The "i" designation only symbolizes Apple's 3rd era. If this book was just photos of the the "i" products, then I could understand a title like, "iConic." But since it covers products from Apple's entire history...no!

:apple:

After seeing the video for it - this guy has bought every single Apple product - accessories and everything, since 1976, just so he could photograph it. This is amazing.

I wish the postage wasn't almost the same price as the book for me down in Australia. $60 postage for a $75 book, can't justify that just yet.

Nice book! One notable fact is that after all the trouble he went through to acquire all these items, after photographing them, he sold all but fifteen of those items again.

One would think that if he had kept one item in pristine condition of each of the products he photographed, he would have ended up with a priceless collection of Apple memorabilia.

If ONE original Apple l computer can fetch over $671,000.00, imagine what a complete collection of Apple products could have garnered.

Great idea, I would love to buy one.

What stops me though is that it's unlikely to include the new Mac Pro, which I feel is a great achievement in design...it belongs in this book.

In a matter of weeks he'll have to release a 2nd edition. Might be worth waiting for that.

It might take many months if not a year or more. First the publishers will wait a see how successful will the book be and if they can sell most of their inventory before committing to new costs of publishing and putting a new revised version out of the door.

For $75, you'd think you'd at least get a slipcase to protect the book.

Looks like it you'll need to fork out $300 for that. IMO, that's too much.

I like my coffee tables clean and classy. Can't have magazines hanging out.

The book's website says this:
Iconic also features two forewords by two of the most highly respected figures in the industry today - Steve Wozniak and Jim Dalrymple.
Jim Dalrymple? Is that a joke? I'd not respect him at all. Sure no book is perfect and his inclusion in this book is proof if this.

But is the rest of the book worth $75? I'm just not sure.

Also a question.
Is the guy in the video on the website (I assume the author) not from the US? His accent does sound a little Australian but I'm just not sure. I know he's lives in the US but the accent does not sound from the US.

[edit] I was right. The WSJ article on the book says:
Jonathan Zufi, a 42-year-old Australian native
So I picked up him being originally Australian just from the sound of his voice.

[edit 2] $60 shipping to Australia. Ouch
That's $135 total for the book with shipping for me. That's a lot for the book.

[edit 3] It's a shame this book does not feature the new Mac Pro. That would be amazing in this book.

Just ordered mine. For the people speaking to the price being high. Sure $75.00 is more than people pay for their day-to-day purchases. Probably a lot more. But for people who love Apple and the products they create, it's really worth it (to them). I also collect Beatles hardcover books, and I don't blink when I pay $75.00 for a book, and I have the same fondness for Apple, if for a different reason. Now, would I pay $300.00? No. I'm not rich *or* crazy. That one is for "the crazy ones."

But I used to pay $60.00 for video games that I may or may not end up liking, so $75.00 for a walk down memory lane is well worth it. Funny, books (of this type/quality) are the only physical media I buy these days. Everything else is digital. It's nice to actually hold something every now and then and turn a real page.

And I feel bad for the people outside the US who have to pay such high shipping. But that goes for everyone really. I do a lot of shipping and the cost to ship is often more than the product's value. So that's something we'll have to live with.

With the internet something like this feels like clutter and a random way to lose money. Of course I tend to be a limited consumer and will feel this way about most items.

I wonder after the initial release sales if they will offer it on Amazon at discounted price. I am a bit reluctant to pay $75 but I would gladly go for around $50 or less.

You would think....

You would think that Shrine of Apple would know what a retina MacBook was and optimize their site for retina. Amateur hour.

This is really rather sad.

And come next product cycle it'll be out of date.

Back in the day when sites were all done in Flash, Bang and Olufsen had a really great looking website...really ground breaking stuff. Where is it today? Yes, you might find it archeived on WayBack, but for all intensive purposes, it's gone.

The beauty of books is that it's always accessible. The 'technology' never gets obsolete and unable to be read. Sure, in print, you can't be up to date, but at least you'll always be able to view it.
