Did I forget to mention that a bigger screen (of the same resolution as it has to be) is cheaper to make. Why would you want a cheaper screen on your "new" iPhone?

"As it has to be"? I don't get why it has to be that resolution doesn't this person know that apple can increase the resolution if they need to. Gosh people are just to uptight

Increasing the resolution not in 2x or 4x folds will cause a lot of complaints with developers, and trust me, getting a 2x fold on the current pixel count is pretty damn hard.

Yes but not this week, not even next year in fact. 960 x 640 is established for now unless you want apps to run on non-native resolution.

You're going to cry when your 4s comes as a prepaid version with a plastic back instead of glass, 5mp camera, a4, and pretty much the same phone overall. Yep you'll lack iOS 5's best features too because the hardware is too weak. You'll love the price and lack of contract though.:)

Yes developers will wine and many won't even update to a higher resolution but they are there for the money so most will. Also remember that a 960-by-640-pixel resolution will look just fine on a 720p 4 - 4.3 screen it's not like the resolution of the old iPhone which was really low and looked horrible in the retina display

Sounds like someone on 2 year contract with an iP4 and desperately hoping something better doesn't come out that makes his fragile, shattering glass museum piece phone look dated.
Amen to this. And yes, I am a happy iP4 owner but don't mind to see upgrades for the next iPhone.

The OP just doesn't want to see progress in technology and wants it on their time. Sour grapes. The OP's ego is as fragile as the back glass of the iPhone 4.

I am happen to be fortunate enough to be able to afford expensive phones (I still have a Vertu). So if Apple says they are going to release an iPhone half the thickness of iPhone 4 but charging 16 times the cost, I'd still get one without even thinking about it. But Apple is not Bang & Olufsen, they are a mass produced consumer product company. And that is actually a good thing, because you could only revolutionize things when everyone could afford what you are offering.

Call me a sour grade as you like, but that is not going to change my opinion that a case redesign plus a slightly larger screen is good enough to be called the iPhone 5.

If by having all those bells and whistles one is considered to be "progressive" in technology, Sony (and now Samsung) would have became the number one company in the world. Whatever Samsung puts in their Galaxy is not progress in technology, but rather technological applications that are finally cheap enough to mass produce. There is nothing innovative about a 4.3 inch screen, however it was very innovative to have the first 330dpi retina display in a 3.5inch screen because it was something very hard to achieve at a consumer product level. And why Apple went all the troubles to come up with the retina display? It's not because they could call their phone "the most HD phone in the world", but because they need to double the resolution from each axis to make it easier for apps to transit. The hardware innovation with Apple products always serve a good purpose, unlike Samsung.

your points were crap. Let's break them down:

How is adding a bigger screen taking apple down to samsung's level? Most smartphones are pushing forward to bigger screens -- htc phones now feature larger screns than the iphone's 3.5", as do droids. Are you suggesting that keeping up with competitors is "lowering" them to their level? What about with the assistant features regarding text and voice -- android does those. Is adding them lowering apple to android's level?

Translation: I will be eligible for an upgrade in summer of 2012, and i would like those features on my phone when i buy.

owned xd

I think your analysis is correct.

On the other hand, if your contract cycle landed you on an iP4 last year, you surely wouldn't have made this comment, placing you in the same class of poster.

Are you going to buy the fragile, shattering glass museum piece, dated-looking phone called the 4S now.

Personally, I STILL love it.

iPhone 4? Completely flawed? Not innovative? So the best selling iPhone Apple has ever made is a bad product? So you're the only smart one who saw through Apple's plot of marketing a 'completely flawed' phone, and the 50 million people who bought one are all retards?

Even today the iPhone 4 is still the best looking phone around that's actually comfortable to hold. Its pixel density is still unmatched. Did I mention it's 18 months old?

no one's saying iPhone 4 is bad
it was a fantastic product, but that was 16 months ago.

One month in technology world is a decade, a year is an eon.

Going 16 months with no news, and then doing simply refresh is literally a suicide.
