If your kid is spending 6-8 hours a day on his iPad Mini then I think you need to be a lot less concerned about what tablets his friends play with and start worrying about your parenting skills. It's incredible you're even bragging about it.
Advice. Take his tablet away and give him a soccer ball.
Thanks for the advice.
My point was the iPad's get used much more often than the Android hardware because of the Eco-system. Now we can all argue when the competitors are going to catch up to iOS, but at the moment, I don't see it happening this year.

Granted, The Android tablets suck ass. But judging by the amount of time your son spends on his iPad, it sounds more like you are in need of parrenting advice, than his friends are in need of iPads. No offence intended.
Thanks for the advice. I was referring to school and home combined. Our school district has a BYOT initiative, he uses the iPad in at least 2 classes, Algebra and Science. BTW, got him the TI - Nspire CAS Algebra app ($5) which is just awesome and replaced his handheld TI unit that I paid $140. He plays Clash of Clans, and other games at night instead of watching TV, like most kids. FYI: he has 6 A's, and 1 B academically, and is taking 2 AP level courses.
