I see a small and unimpressive iPhone update this year.

Probably new colors.
Prob a front facing camera.
A small bump in specs.
Probably a 32GB at a higher price point.
NO WAY a 64GB model. They wouldn't be able to sell one at a reasonable price.
Improved battery is likely, especially if they change the specs a little.

I don't know if they re-design the form factor much yet. Maybe next time.

I do however agree AT&T will be the exclusive iPhone provider in the US. I doubt we ever see one on T-Mobile, and doubt seeing a Verizon and Sprint one even more. Verizon (and Sprint) uses an entirely different radio and they want to much control over their devices. They have the Storm now and a host of other touchscreens from LG and Samsung.

Apple and AT&T have a good agreement, and are happier with each other they you think.

Phil said there would be a hardware upgrade in June or July of 2009.

You can't get more authoritative than that.
Agree. Pretty definite timeframe if you ask me.

Here in Japan, Softbank is running a promotion that ends on May 31st. This would indicate that something is happening soon after that.

That doesn't indicate anything at all. Maybe they just ran out of credit.

There will for sure be a refresh to the hardware line this summer.

As I said in the another thread -

- New matte body. Though generally the same size and shape
- 32 gig model is very likely
- new colours is very likely
- maybe better camera
- maybe better battery
- maybe 'invisible' upgrades to the memory and clock speed to match the 2nd gen Touch

I hope that they update the memory and clock speed. Sometimes I get tired of how laggy the phone is. I wish it were a bit snappier sometimes.
