Seeing as how the original iPhone wasn't much different than the 3G version, I don't think it would be worth it for anyone to upgrade. Apple will probably increase the speakers and upgrade the camera but that's about it. I don't think that's worth spending at least $100 or so more for.

If a new iphone came out I'd just be 2 generations behind.

Would have to have some really great improvements for me to think about upgrading.

I just bought my iPhone last month. Now I've been hearing rumors about a new iPhone releasing, but I don't see why Apple would release one so soon when the 3G hasn't even been out for more than a year.

Personally, I could care less about MMS, copy/paste and a video recorder. I never use those things so it doesn't matter to me.

I just hope they keep updating iPhones when the new one releases.
I for one, won't be getting it since I recently bought the 3G.

why are you bothered about the a new iPhone, from your post it seems you would rather they don't release a new iPhone this summer.

I don't if I will. I just got my 3G in November and I don't see any point in paying an absurd amount for a new one.

I can see someone paying for the 3G versus the regular iPhone for the gps and 3G speeds but the only improvement the iPhone really needs now is battery life.

Other than that, it can all be done via software updates if Apple chooses to do so. Of course, the battery is always a concern.

I'm big on the iPhone love all the stuff I get done on it. I'm on a 3g iPhone. If the new iPhone has improvements in proccesing capabilities and speed I will figure out a way to get one asap. If the only improvements are to do with storage size then I won't upgrade cause 16gb is plenty for me for now. So I'm hoping for an iphone Pro option with a hefty price tag as proper.

I start my clinical rotations for medical school in July. I'm really hoping Apple gets the ball rolling and releases the iPhone before then.

i HAD a first gen. i HAVE a second gen. and i will HAVE the third, fouth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, nineth... ect... this thing really just keeps getting better everyday.

I don't have an iPhone...depending on the improvements, I may get the new one, or I may get the current one. I'm not due until June to get one anyway, as that's when my Alltel contract runs out.

I thought AT&T bought Alltel? At least that's what I had heard from my relatives in Oklahoma. I've been calling them and there have been no charges, since they are considered in the AT&T Network...

I'm looking forward to the newest iPhone 24/7...

Only if it answers many questions like having a decent bluetooth stack with A2DP, better camera, MMS support, background processes support, multitasking, improved searching options etc

Otherwise i'd hold on to my current 3G and buy something else....probably the Pre

Here are the specs for the new iPhone that is rumored to release: http://www.businessinsider.com/2009/2/99-iphone-coming-this-summer

That link is about the supposed $99 iPhone, not the "new" iPhone that would replace the current model. And didn't Apple publicly say (Phil at MWSF I think?) they won't have a $99 iPhone because (I'm paraphrasing) "that's not the kind of customer" they go after? I'm not saying they can't change their mind, but I recall him flat out saying no, whereas they usually dance around a topic if it's a possibility in the future (i.e. Blu-Ray, netbook).

Same here, it depends on what ATT will offer by way of not getting RAPED on upgrading, i would really love to see a new METAL case, the 3G feels like a cheap toy.

Here is my plan. 3.0 comes out....I unjailbreak it, install 3.0 from iTunes....Take my phone to Apple Store...make up something, they give me a shiny new one, install 3.0...now my white 16g will be fresh and new to me all over again like day 1. Then the new phone comes out later mid year...I get it around Xmas.

Umm... wow. Scamming Apple for your own personal benefits... you are just SOOO cool... You don't need a new iPhone to make it feel fresh. Just restore it and don't restore a backup and it will be as if you just opened the box.

I waited until the 3G phone came out and bought a first-gen. It looks like 3G will finally be coming to my neck of the woods in 2009 (berkshires of western mass). I hope the phone update that's expected in June/July will make some nice hardware improvements. I'll be ready to jump on the more expensive data bandwagon then.
