Why not just wait an extra year and get the 2010 updated model that has everything the one in June has + more?

I really don't understand the concept of breaking your contract just to have the latest greatest phone. You'll be behind the times for a year at which point you can get the subsidized price on a better phone while everyone who bought this year is still under their contract.

Normally I would wait the full two years. I would only "break my contract" if the improvements in the new phone are substantial enough to justify getting those improvements a year sooner. I'll do my own mental cost/benefit analysis to make that determination. It will come down to how much more productive the new phone will make me.

Just because your thread has 17 replies doesn't make it a good thread. It just makes you one of the first of many, many people who will post the exact same exact topic in the coming months.

Trust us.

You've made your point, you don't like my thread. Whatever. Let me have this discussion with everyone else here then. Thank you ;)

People also said the 3G value would drop once it was unlocked. The price is still the same.

True, but I'm not going to take the chance. I'm not that desperate to make an extra hundred bucks selling early when I don't even know what the next version will offer.

I know Apple's not the company waiting for others to reply with alternative products (presumably better) and then react with its own products, as it's been demonstrated a 2.1 version is somewhere out there, I believe it has something different both aesthetically and from a CPU/GPU point of view. It's just that Palm/Toshiba(I'm also linking another iPhone wannabe, click on it)/HTC-Android aren't staying in the corner, the smartphone industry usually brings new phones pretty often, Apple just has to adapt.. I'm not buying (I hope) the next iPhone since I have a 16GB 3g, but I hope Apple releases something more than just a storage bump.

That thing is pretty sweet. 4.1" display, 9 mm thin, and a 1 GHz processor.

Can someone help/clarify...

I am sooooooooooo confused about when I will be upgrade eligible. The AT&T computers (Windows  figures) were broken on the day I upgraded (iDay 2) so they charged me full price for the iPhone and said I would be credited the remaining $200. Well, it's been a while and I haven't gotten any sort of payback/credit. I have no clue whether or not I will be upgrade eligible and I am told something completely different every time I go to AT&T.

I have heard some MR forum posters say they bought their iPhone 3G on July 11th as well and are eligible for upgrade in July of this year. I'm confused...

I'd see why people would want to upgrade from regular iPhone to the 3G. It is a drastic improvement.

I don't see what else they could add that would make a new one worthwhile. More space won't affect the casual user. In fact, I'd think a couple of software changes to give us more native features would be better. I'm talking about things that Apple simply doesn't want to give us so they can try to make their own stuff widespread. But this would something all iPhone users would be able to enjoy.

I understand Apple isn't about choice, but one can wish.

I'm looking forward to the next iPhone that releases. I am somewhat pleased with the 3G right now. My mom wants an iPhone though so I will probably give her the one I have now and get a new one.

Progress, my friend. Evolution. Everything that has been developed must be continued to be developed. Your iPhone is just like a regular desktop computer. Just like a regular computer it will run into hardware limitations as the software community strengthens.

I don't believe the iPhone -> iPhone 3G transition was 'huge' by any means other that we got a subpar 3G cellular radio, cheaper quality build, and rushed OS development, in exchange for a lower, subsidized price and a decent AGPS setup.

I personally would love to see 'the Pro' that's been rumored recently. Performance increases across the board which would allow serious development of apps, combined with a better quality build. Bigger screen, thinner iPod Touch 2nd Gen-style back...

The list goes on. ;)

I sold both my v1 iPhones 8GB a week before the 3G iPhone release and they went for $425 and $375, non-JB, non-unlock, AT&T w/AppleCare. Held on to my Motorola KRZR and Nokia as backups and they did the job for the entire week...

Hmm you just gave me an idea right there, time to look for that Samsung for a back-up just in case. And for the sake of the thread's title, only one can hope ;)

Well I'm talking in relation to the Toshiba TG01, not that I would buy one but if the iphone had that much power (1ghz) and a 4+" screen, man, that would be sweet!

Same guys that provided the Zune. This will probably be the ZunePhone.

nah, at least I think not, Asus makes Macs like Toshiba made the Zune *for* Microsoft, this one's supposed to be their creation, from top to bottom, even though it uses WinMo, and has a few extra things on top of it, pretty much like Samsung or HTC. Still, not bad, as someone else was saying, 4.1", better resolution of course, nice smooth UI thanks to the CPU, who knows about the battery though, since even iPhone's processor is underclocked. The others are kinda getting there, time for Apple to reinvent once again, I'm faithful in every way:)
