So I was looking at my friend's wii, and I thought it looked like the kind of thing that should have a glowing Apple sign on the side. So then I thought what it would be like if Apple bought nintendo. You could sync it with iTunes, and then Apple would put out a free sdk for developers. Just like the iPhone! What do you think?

There were rumors a couple years ago (around 2006ish) that Apple and Nintendo were talking and possibly working together on something, but those rumors haven't really resurfaced since then.

I think if Apple ever seriously wanted to enter the video gaming console industry, the easiest way would be to co-create one with the help of either Sony or Nintendo (Microsoft would be way too ironic). Nintendo seems like the most likely candidate.

Actually, Apple is slowly getting there on their own, without help from anyone.

Because of the iphone they have a strong following of developers and an sdk that's already cross platform.

If they get the right mix of features, the apple tv (or better yet an apple tv/mini hybrid as a new product) becomes a pretty popular tv-top platform.

Put the two together, and you have all three pieces. A console, a hi-tech remote that 31 million people already own, an sdk, the apple logo, and they don't have to risk a huge flop like the pippin because each piece is standalone.

Obviously all of that is just speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if something along those lines happens...

He's right, Apple could not afford to buy Nintendo. The scenario would be much more realistic if Nintendo bought Apple.

Well actually Nintendo's market cap for 2008 was US$52,732.9 million, while Apple's was US$ 27,424.7 million. So it would be a cold day in Redmond if Apple were to buy Nintendo.

Apple and Nintendo working together as TSE said is much more likely.

Apple's market cap is ~$103 billion. Nintendo's market cap is ~$40 billion.

I think Apple could buy two Nintendos.

Market cap does not equal how much purchasing power a company has, it just means how much all outstanding shares are worth. Its more like Apple is worth a little over 2 Nintendos...

Last time I checked, Apple had 19 billion in cash, so they could only buy about half of Nintendo's shares.

Some of you need to study finance. Market cap doesn't mean anything especially when it involves buying or aquiring other companies. For example, Apple has a higher market cap than Dell, doesn't mean they can purchase it.

if Apple bought Nintendo. my life would be complete.

i play freaking pokemon on Gameboy Color,
mario kart, wwf no mercy, donkey kong and starfox 64 on N64,
Spiderman, Super Smash Melee on Gamecube

and going to buy a wii soon :)

i can't think of a happier purchase for Apple however i doubt it would ever happen haha

I think Apple should buy iPhone

I think nintendo has built an innovative handheld that does just as much as the iPhone does, and would like to see a partnership between Nintendo and Apple so that I can play animal crossing on my iPhone:D

    Flame away.

you need to change the name of this topic. It doesn't make sense. Do you mean: Apple should buy Nintendo?

"I think Apple should buy iPhone" title is to get views, like me.

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Apple can not screw up another company!

In the similar fashion as Chris Crocker: Leave Nintendo Alone!

No thank you. Apple is the superior computer, just like Nintendo is the superior gaming system. Lets keep them like that and seperate. I always love going to my PC/Xbox/Playstation friends and bragging about how I kick it oldschool with Nintendo and Apple

It would be an interesting merger, but, I highly doubt it would ever happen.

I'm not sure how "old school" either of those are unless you're rocking a N64 & a Newton.

Maybe you need some basic finance 101 training on what purchasing power and market cap is so you don't look foolish in public.
