Bell Canada issued a recall this last year for the power adaptors on their 2Wire Modems. Now, I had never had a problem with my modem's power adaptor. Didn't expect there ever to be a problem. Nonetheless, when they offered a new adaptor I took it, because common sense dictates me to do so.

Now I don't own an iPhone 4, yet. However, if I had a unit that was working fine I would have been one of those posting about it, because that I would feel it was my obligation to say "Hey, mine's working." I wouldn't be denying there is an issue (which there obviously is), I would simply be assisting in gauging the extent of the issue - that not all phones are affected. And even if my phone was functioning perfectly, I would exchange it if there was a recall ... because it's common sense.

I don't understand why you are being so bitter against those who have working phones. They were right to say there phone worked and to deny the issue was all encompassing (because I know first hand it wasn't) and they would still be right to exchange their phones if there was a recall.

Unlike yourself many people were unable to accept that there was a problem with the iPhone 4. People were very patronising when people were complaining about their experiences. I would like to know what those very same people would do if Apple addmiting that there was a problem, hence this topic.

It is a fact that every phone IS defective. It may only occur under certain conditions but the iPhone 4 when held a certain way in a low signal area loses 1 or more bars of signal. There is no special iPhone out there the has a magical antenna better than all the rest...

I don't believe in magical antennas either, but explain how two phones can be sitting side-by-side and one has issues and the other doesn't.

I am 100% on board with you. Many of my clients are lockheed engineers and most of them have a very "unique" personality. I could not afford to have signal issues, that being said I hope I get a properly working phone because I have enjoyed all of my previous iphones. I just ordered mine on the 11th

So you can't afford to have signal issues yet you still ordered the iPhone 4?

It's not the people who have working phones that some are taking issue with. It's the people who are denying there is an issue at all. And plenty of people are stating (as if it's a fact) that there is no issue. It's frustrating to those who are experiencing an issue to be dismissed out of ignorance.

I agree with you completely. Those people are annoying and should be banned from forums for flaming - unfortunately they make up at least 50% of the internet and are always found on both sides of any internet argument. I posted above only to address these two lines by the OP "My phone is perfect" "I'm 100% happy with my phone" - both legitimate responses.

I understand that now. Sorry for my comment. I agree that against those people specified your bitterness is justified and well placed.

If there is a recall, and this is a very big if, than it will more than likely be a voluntary recall. I can’t see Apple admitting to acquisitions that all iPhone 4 units are defective (which I don’t believe is true to begin with). I can see Apple saying that a replacement unit will be given to unsatisfied customers who purchased their unit during the launch window.

By this logic, it would be foolish to ever buy a new phone. Ever. Because it potentially could have a flaw pop up down the road.

Stop trolling.

Not at all. You buy a new phone because it's new and has better features. A revised iPhone 4 wouldn't be any better, it just wouldn't have the defect which apparently your phone doesn't have anyway.

I'm no engineer or anything but I'm sure there are other things that factor in. I'm just saying it is the design that is causing the problem and every iPhone 4 has the same exact design. Eventually everyone is going to encounter this problem. Me and my buddy bought the iPhone 4 the same day. He rarely had good service and always dropped calls everywhere. I have only have one dropped call and usually have full service except in a few areas. We live right next to eachother.

I don't know what else to factor in either. I don't have the answers. It doesn't make sense to me though.

My only issue with your statement is "Eventually everyone is going to encounter this problem." Why so? I have a phone that hasn't encountered it yet. Its been in multiple states across the country.

I have never denied that some people were having problems. I have just stated that I am not having any problems with mine. Big difference.

Ok - playing devil's advocate.
Steve gets up tomorrow and says "ALL of the iPhone4s have been deemed defective. While some aren't experiencing any issues now, we can't guarantee they won't in the future and therefor we are recalling them"

You're saying you'll still keep yours? Somehow I just can't "buy" that. Somehow I think that all of the people on MR who have "perfect" phones and can't believe people issues with theirs will be first in line to demand their exchange so that they have perfect phones.

Call me a cynic.

Let me tackle this. My iPhone has worked since day 1 and i will not be returning it. I'm not a lemming and i don't follow what other people do. So stand in line if you want to return yours.

But i won't be there because i'm keeping mine. Now you can be a cynic all you want. Really doesn't matter to me. Mine works End of story.

I get very tired of seeing people insisting that everyone has a defective unit or making snarky comments like the one you just made. You obviously have some type of mission to be right. Well your obsession with this issue will prove rather futile.

Or I was just playing devil's advocate like I wrote? I didn't insist anything. I posed a scenario. Relax :)

Do you know that people have been looking for video evidence of this for the last month? There is an entire thread dedicated to it.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/952387/

Perhaps you could oblige?

Edit: In fact that thread has the same OP as this thread: Citrate.

I'm sure he'd love to see your 2 iPhones behaving differently in the same location - I know I would.

thanks

Hand someone else your phone and come to Texas we have a lot of open space you'll encounter the problem eventually! lol

I have a bumper on mine so really no problem but if they did do a recall I'd still trade mine in...

Being in a line to return a defective phone makes you lemming? How dare I want a perfectly working phone after paying money. It also isn't a simple case of returning it since I sold my 32GB 3gs. I would either have to buy a used 32gb 3gs, buy an 8 gb 3gs new, or get a different phone. However, I would lose all the apps I have purchased.

No, I will not. They way "people" where acting in that thread, I felt that anything I posted was going to be ripped apart and ridiculed. I wouldn't have had them close enough, or I wasn't gripping one tight enough, etc. It wasn't worth my time and still isn't.
