From what I've read, nothing will be able to use the bottom of the screen is that's going to be more of a control area.

This makes so much sense, just like the home button of the 7 is partially already an embedded version that will be used by the 8.

Or go to home screen, or go to multitasking screen from inside an app.

This question was undoubtedly asked in a meeting at 1 Infinite Loop 5 years ago, or more. Multiple teams would have been tasked to come up with alternate, competing solutions to the question. Before sometime last year, when final design decisions would have been due, countless meetings were held on the subject, many dozens or hundreds of prototypes built... There's a reason Steve Jobs wanted to gather 11,000-13,000 people together onto a single campus. To borrow a phrase, it takes a village...

I pity the person who has not had the immense pleasure of participating in the collaborative design/creative process, surrounded by people whose knowledge, skill, and creativity combine to make something greater than the sum of its parts. Until you've done that, it may be possible to imagine yourself a solitary genius, capable of out-thinking all others, seeing something no-one else can perceive.

1:85.1 is close to 16:9. 2:35.1 is wider. Either way the new iPhone is wider still.

Both are wider than 16:9. And the new iPhone won't be wider than 2.35:1. The expectation is an 18:9 or 18.5:9. I'd like to be able to use that extra real estate for videos. There's also the possibility of changing the aspect ratio of the built-in cameras. Some recent phones have gone to a larger 18:9 ratio like that.

iOS 10 enhanced 3D touch to multitask to switch apps and go home at the same time. Apple does seem to have disabled that feature in the iOS 11 beta, but i have a feeling it will return.

Last month i challenged myself to use 3D touch for everything and never touch or use the home button on my 7 Plus. it was a success. While stopping the app "wiggle" mode when changing the home screen layout was difficult without the home button, i did manage with access to control center.

Also I did recently made the purchase of the S8+ to test out the infinity display and embedded home button. When not watching videos the navigation bar is alway visible. (back, home and app switcher). Since Apple does not have a separate back button or app switcher, everything is embedded into the home button. I really hope Apple does have the home button permanently shown on the screen and would allow the ability to hide.

iOS and Android are two separate OS systems and customers. I have no doubt that Apple will implement the home buttom better than Android.

But almost all video content on the internet is 16:9. TV shows, YouTube, the videos you shoot with your camera, live TV, etc. all is in 16:9, except for movies. And the percentage of people watching full movies on an iPhone is so low that I wouldn't expect Apple to take that into account. Also, photos are in 4:3 so the extra screen real estate would not help there either.

Great, if it's only 16:9 then you can keep the buttons on the display too. What's the problem with having the option to maximize the screen if you have wider frame content or zoom on your photo? I don't get why people think choice is bad.

I think it should just be that you 3D Touch on the bezel right below the screen. That way you do not lose any screen and it functions the same way as before. Another possible way is if the screen is OLED like it is rumored to be, the aspect ratio can be 18:9 and the bottom area remains black or white at all times depending on your phone's color with a circle to act as the home button.

Rumour has it you have to plugin an old set of earpods in the headphone jack.

Personally, I am just going to wait and see what iphone 8 is going to visually look like gui wise with ios11 before i jump to assumptions.

Choice is definitely not bad, I'm just trying to think how Apple would think in this situation. It's not like I wouldn't want it, but just that I don't see them doing it :)

The iphone having home button under the screens that buttons are pressurized button. They are pressed by giving pressure on the button. So you can exit from when you just tap on the button. Or another way is that you can exit the app with the help of home button present on assistive touch.
