I bought it at a retail store though. Who do I call, the store or Apple's 1800 support number?

If you payed with a credit card and Apple doesnt give you a new one...

Call you CC company and ask them to stop your payment to Apple (open a dispute). See if they can deal with it. I did that with my Amex a few years ago with my iBook G4.

I did pay with my Amex. That might be a solution.

I hope I dont have to go through all of this hassle. I mean the upgrade wasnt that good... :p

Last May, I bought a refurb MB and it was delivered about a week before a new model came out. I called Apple and they refunded the difference between the old and new price to my VISA. The policy (online at least) is that if the price drops within 10 days of delivery, they refund the difference. I'm not sure of that would apply to a new laptop bought in store, but it's worth a shot.

Can I call Apple's 1-800 number for a possible exchange / price match? Or do I have to go to the store I bought it at?

Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

Keep it -- You Have the Better Machine Already.

Read the new article on front page of MR.

Don't be swayed by the numbers on paper.

Your machine is probably better built and probably more stable. These new processors gave intel fits, and for what?

For nothing! Again, read the article carefully.

Keep what you have.

I would not want one of these "new" boxes: Apple is just trying to blow these crap chips out for intel.

Mark my words.

Yea, i wouldn't mind a price match at all.

The restocking fee is 10% NOT 15%

i agree with motorde about the decision being based on the manager in charge and unfortunately what kind of day they are having-- ask to speak to them and politely explain the issue...chances are they will respond better to that (plus...you don't know if they have been getting yelled at all day by customers who are in the same boat as you!)

I returned my MBP on day 13 awhile ago and they said they would waive the restocking fee if the computer was somehow defective. Mine was slightly so I was able to return it, but given the conversation I had with the manager regarding the return policy I think if you were mislead somehow by the sales staff (which DEFINITELY happened to me) you could use that as well. I was told the computer had functionality it did not and I had purchased it for that functionality (which was true). It really is up to the manager. Just be nice, but firm, and state your commitment to apple products. You'll be fine........

Do you guys think I would have a better chance of getting the restocking fee waived if I went earlier or later this week?

I have an option to go tomorrow, but it is out of my way. I would rather go this friday, but if you think the managers would be sick of waiving restocking fees, I'll make the extra trip tomorrow.

Thoughts?

I would imagine the sooner the better.

i was told that since i used the educator discount already, i could not use it to waive the restocking fee? :(

any advice?

This is ridiculous reasoning and is not stated in apple policy anywhere. It is a manager finding a justification to make more money.

Hmm, that's strange.

I went tonight to the Northbrook, IL Apple Store. The manager (not the same one earlier in the day) on duty helped me out and everything was very smooth. No restocking fee and exchanging the computer was easier than when I first bought it on tuesday.

My point about the educator discount when I explained the situation to the manager is that the restocking fee is basically my discount, so I'm pretty much paying the normal price. and since you can only buy one computer a year with your discount, it goes to waste. Ask to speak to a manager or maybe call Apple Care.

i couldn't resist it. i went to the store about an hour ago. too bad i don't have the box with me. they told me that they will exchange it and waive the restocking fee.

All is good with :apple:

this is my first mac. and i am really loving everything :apple:

cant wait to get my hands on the new MBP tomorrow.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just had an awesome customer service experience with Apple! I basically ordered a maxed out MBP on February 12 and since they updated the MBP yesterday, I gave them a call to ask if I could get a price match. They just emailed me return labels so I can return my customized MBP for full credit!!! I'm going to reorder a new MBP in a little bit. Good luck to all who ordered a MBP within the past 2 weeks.

That's borderline fraud.
The price going down is not a valid reason to dispute a charge.
Instituting a chargeback costs the seller hugely in time and paperwork.

It's like the %^#@*&head who smashes my car window ($300 deductible) to take $1.50 in parking money.

I feel pretty ripped off that everyone else gets a better computer for the same price... 4 days ago.

I honestly believe if Apple likes to run their business all hushy about updates, then they need to own up to the consequences of not giving their customers info of updated products to make informed decisions.

If Apple told you when they were releasing new versions of their products, who would buy the current version?

4 days ago, the MBP you bought was ideal for what you wanted it for. 4 days later, you're miffed that you didn't get a bigger hard drive, or a multi-touch trackpad, even though you didn't need them 4 days ago?

This sounds like a simple case of wanting to have the very best. Well, you had that 4 days ago. I'd just stick with it.

I bought a MBP on Friday (first MAC!).

I just called my local Apple store (Briarwood Mall, Ann Arbor, MI) and they said they will be more than happy to replace it with an upgraded unit (and waive the restocking fee) as long as I come back to the store within the 14-day return period.

Now even if they weren't willing to do this, I would still be more than happy with the current machine; but if it's only going to cost me a 10 min drive to the store to get the upgrade, why not :D?

same predicament too. if you can have the newer one for not a penny more, why not. :D
i just did earlier.. so sweet! can't wait to open the box.

What the hell. The Apple store in Twelve Oaks gave me 300 bucks back, but wouldnt let me upgrade to the new version without the restocking fee...

Ugh. I guess 300 bucks is better than nothing. I would have rather had the new version though...

At this point I would call Apple Care and complain. So they'll give you 300 dollars and lose that but won't lose $175 for the restocking fee? They just sound like they're being difficult.

I would call and complain.

so you got $300 back, just go to the store again on friday and pay the restocking fee, $180. You just got a upgraded MBP and $120, sounds good to me. :)

hmm.. as good as this may sound..unless you can erase the serial number and create a new one.. they'll surely know they already gave you $300 for it...
there's a RUMOR that these stores uses computers for billing... well it's just a rumor anyway:D

That is exactly what I told them. They didnt have an answer, just immediately switched to, "these are your only options..."

I took the 300 since thats all I thought I could do.

That's good to know, usually the Northbrook store is a nightmare...
