I have ICO, and sadly, I could never get really into it. After I finished SotC, I pretty much had a hard time getting into anything else, cause I just kept wishing I was still fighting colossi. ;-) Elder Scrolls: Oblivion eventually managed to suck me in again... I'll probably give ICO another try sometime. SotC was pretty much an impossible act to follow for any game.

I would probably kill a person for a SotC sequel on PS3. ;-)

Well, not that it's guaranteed, but Fumito Ueda (the director of both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus) is currently working on two games for the PS3. At least that was the rumor last I heard out of Famitsu. Considering that SotC was a spiritual prequel to ICO, it's possible that the new games will tie into that universe. At least, I hope so, because there's so much space between the two that I can only imagine how he'll flesh things out. If you haven't played through/finished ICO I'd highly recommend you do, just for the full experience on how it and SotC are connected.

Of course, he might consider that universe "done" on the PS2 and be gearing up to create a new setting for this PS3 games. One thing that's for certain is that unless he's been hit on the head in the last few years, his "design by subtraction" aesthetic ought to be intact.

I'll throw in a resounding endorsement for ANY of these games:

Okami
Shadow of the Colossus
Ico
God of War [either one]
Beyond Good & Evil

there's a few good games on the ps2 i would say gta:san andreas,killzone,resident evil 4,silent hill 2,timesplitters 1-3

Okami(Hoping for a Wii version.) and GT4.

Hey spoon man,
you should check out RE:4 on the Wii. The control updates make it the definitive version over the PS2 and Cube release. The Cube had the best looking cut scenes though, since they were all real-time. The PS2 release used videos made from the Cube's cut scenes and that was just past onto the Wii along with all of the PS2 additions.

Shadow of the Colossus, if you want one of the most remarkable, breath-taking gaming experiences of your life - but, unfortunately, one of the shortest as well.
Monster Hunter 2 if you want a deep, addictive RPG/action-style game that will occupy you for upwards of hundreds of hours (just don't expect much in the way of plot or character presentation).

Kingdom Hearts. KH2 if you've played the first, since IMHO Kingdom Hearts 2 is much better from a gameplay perspective but you'll be hopelessly confused if you haven't played the first one. Heck, you'll probably be hopelessly confused even if you HAVE played the first one, the first three hours are insanely trippy before you start getting even the slightest answers.

Burnout 3 is also fun.

Shadow of the Colossus is amazing but not a lot of replay value and not very long. But cinematic.

Another vote for Kingdom Hearts and/or Kingdom Hearts 2. Brought back the Disney magic for me.

Socom: Combined Assault. Why? Intense first person shooter and by far the best co-op online play of any PS2 game out there.

Highly endorsed. Also check out ICO, the game which preceded Shadow of the Colossus. Similarly engaging, heavily atmospheric, and sports the same "design by subtraction" philosophy. It doesn't hurt that the two games are linked story-wise too. :)

Fumito Ueda is a game-design god. I can't wait for his PS3 games.

If I had to pare my PS2 collection down to a single game, that would be it. Hell, if I had to pick a favorite game of all time this would be a finalist.

For games that push the PS2 hardware wise more so than most others I'd also recommend both :-

PRIMAL &
GHOSTHUNTER

Both run at progressive scan & 16:9 and pushed that little machine to it's limits. Add to the fact both are solid games and you have a couple of must have titles.

Don't talk about it MRU they know nothing of it:D

If you are looking for a great story and some beautiful gameplay I recommend:

Primal
SoTC
ICO
Silent Hill Series
Mark Of Kri
Sly Cooper series....good platforming.
MGS series...action/stealth/crazy story

I should also mention:

Siren(forbidden siren)....great story with frustrating gameplay.
Haunting Ground...another game with a strong story
Fatal Frame Series....very good scare with a good story(combat not so much)

Bless
