A small led indicator somewhere on the front of the device looks so corny. I think a nice way is to use the white square in the homebutton to lighten up when you have a notification.

I used to have the Camera LED flash for text messages with BiteSMS and it got kind of annoying after a while. I would much prefer a glowing home button or something a little more subtle which seems to suit Apple's style. There was a couple of times in the middle of the night where my bedroom looked like a rave was taking place, not fun when you are trying to catch some Zzz's haha!

Or you can just push the home button to see if you've gotten an email. No LED needed.

Or you could just check your e-mail on a computer. No iPhone needed. 😉
I think what some of us are implying is that, like many of the other amenities on the iPhone, LED isn't really necessary, but would be a nice and welcomed addition.

If it does, it's probably gonna be embedded into the home button. Like an LED ring around it...at least, I hope.

I guess if there's no new notification LED on the front, it kind of has to wake up the screen. I'm trying to remember if my Atrix did or not. But having had a BB and the Atrix, would definitely welcome the feature.

I would prefer the home button square to pulse (like the MacBook Pro in sleep mode) rather than a ring around the home button. IMO the ring around the home button would look tacky.

That was one of the features I liked a lot about my old Pre was knowing I had a message by the pattern of the glowing home button.

an LED could be added "under the glass" or to the home button, I think that would be neat.

I think an LED is inevitable. Maybe not on the next gen but eventually. I KNOW hearing impaired people can "use the flash" but you have to admit it's kind of stupid to make them do so.

So you han sit the phone face down to see the notifications flash or you can sit it face up to miss the flash but see the screen. Doesn't make much sense.

The LED is one of the very few things I miss about my old blackberry.

I hope Apple makes an LED notification that's as discrete as the one on the mbp. Maybe the white lining square in the home button will glow?
