It won't be out until at least the release of firmware update 2.0. They are not going to release it with the current firmware and I would bet my business that they aren't going to release it before current owners are able to update to fw 2.0. That's just silly. 2.0 is coming in late June like Jobs said on March 6th, and I really wouldn't expect the 2nd gen iphone to be released until at least that day.

Why is that silly?

New products almost always get the new software before upgrades are passed out.

It makes old customers on the edge of upgrading impulse-buy a new one.

I do agree though, the 3G will come out with the 2.0 firmware. It's all going to go down long before the end of june though I think.

If 2.0 software is available for the 3G launch, I can't see how Apple can hold it back from existing owners. I don't think Jobs will want to risk another PR disaster like the 6th week price drop.

Its silly because 2.0 was announced as an upgrade to fw 1.1.4 for the current iPhone back in March. One of the primary messages of the March 6th Event was that enterprises and individuals can purchase the current iPhone knowing that an update was around the corner that would greatly improve functionality.

Also I don't really agree that new products get software upgrades before older models. Especially with Apple products.

I think that the shipping will be shortly after the announcement because they will want to get it on the streets before the Blackberry Bold is released. People will have spent their money on the iphone and won't want to jump ship to BB.

I see the new OS being released after the iPhone 2 hits the streets. If they release the new OS for iPhone 1, people may be satisfied with the upgraded OS and won't buy the new iPhone.

"By the end of June" doesn't necessarily mean June 29.

If it's BY the end of June can't that point to a possible release of earlier in June? :D I sure hope so because I want 2.0 ok my Touch so badly. Possibly Steve said by the end of June thinking it might not be available by WWDC, but I think it will :p anyways, I said the same think like 3 times so thanks for reading.

All the best

For the people who already have the iphone can we trade or sell our old ones and still keep our current plans?

Last I checked, it said "Late June".

And last I checked, June 9 is not late June.

Switching to another phone doesn't affect the plan at all. This was shown when people (including me) got the 8 GB iPhone, then 16 GB came out two days later, and without switching SIM cards, activated the phone while not having to renew the 2 year contract.

What happened with selling the old phone? Could buyers get a SIM only deal, or would they have had to hack it?

if i buy the new 3g iphone and activate it will it keep the same plan i had with my old iphone?

So if i buy the new 3g iphone and activate it with the same number will it continue the same plan and can i use it like i was?
