Would you buy a Macbook Air if it was priced at $999?

If you're gonna dissappoint me with a 4200rpm HDD give me at least 2 hours more battery than the MacBook.

That said, I'd buy two @ $999! Actually, I'd get ONE and throw $800 at AAPL stocks.

I would definitely pay $99.

I would pay 98, 99 is just way too much

Seriously, I think 1k is way to cheap, but i do agree that 1800 is too much. I think in the middle 1400ish is what most were hoping for.

But I should have been smarter and known that apple will always be a little overpriced and especially on new debut products.

... I'd just never be able to forgive myself for spending almost 2 grand on a computer that I can't even upgrade the RAM or battery in.. especially when an EEE would be just as useful.

See Apple, I'd be willing to pay $500 for the Apple premium.. but not $1200.
You're suggesting here that the EEE and the Air are equal machines and that the price difference is the "Apple premium."

All I have to say is ... "Have you even seen the EEE?" :p

I can assure you they are not equal machines in any sense of the word.

I'm not a huge fan of the MB Air in its current form. It's too underpowered to be a desktop replacement, and too overpriced to be a PDA replacement. Apple has also continued the unfortunate trend of creating computers that are nearly impossible to upgrade.

Considering the fact that I'll be locked in to 2 gigs of RAM and a sub-2GHz processor for the rest of its shelf life, I wouldn't pay more than $700 for it. All you're paying for is good looks.

Assuming it was 999 including a normal hard disk, and say a few bucks more for flash and an external dvd, I'd sell this Macbook. With that being said, something that thin, I get the feeling of it being too flimsey and not being sturdy enough. I want a laptop built like a tank.

No. I see no use for that notebook. It lacks of so many things. Maybe a business man who travels a lot and needs a light, small notebook, the MB Air is a great buy, but not for me. I don't mind carrying a heavier notebook that has more functionalities than a light notebook.

At $999 bucks, I'd be ordering one right now and probably include the SSD and superdrive.

However, I don't think the current price is that unreasonable. Maybe if it was 1500 (edu) to 1600 (normal) that would be better, but still look at the special components that were developed for this.

I still love it.

Laptop built like a tank? You'd want a Voodoopc or Alienware then :p.

(sorry for double post)

I think a pricedrop is more than likely. After a month of selling a million they will say hm... the price is too high.... people aren't buying. Then they will price drop to 1499 and all of a sudeen they have a market. Let's see!

Ditto. I told my daughter to hold off buying a replacement for her iBook until Tuesday to see what came out. If the MBA had been in the $1400 range, I'd have recommended it. She ordered a refurb Blackbook for $1249. And so far, it looks like she got the last one. They haven't been back since.

I think people except a machine that can do everything...and that's just no physically/practically/or real. You can't have a machine with: TONS of battery life, the fastest processor, weight almost nothing, and have every possible device (SuperDrive, USBs, etc...)

Obviously this is a ultra-portable notebook, that sacrifices some features for others. It's perfect for the traveling man, taking on a plane, etc...will it be able to play games, do superduper things....NO but that's not why you would buy something like that for.

Sure I think it's overpriced, but so is almost every apple computer....though I love my new MBP (so I guess I messed up) :D
