Up until the big switch to Intel Motorola and IBM were apples biggest suppliers for CPUs older apples from way back in the day used a lot of parts from Texas Instruments too. Surprisingly I have a Nintendo game cube that uses a similar CPU to the apple/ibm powerpc one too it runs at 500 MHZ there are small differences in the design for the purposes of the CPU's use but basically they are the same manufacturers. Motorola supplied most of apples 68k processors in the 90's as well Apple concentrates on making sure the software is compatible with the hardware it's designed for they don't build the hardware.
