You're the one trying to attribute sales of larger iPads to one single thing, you thus have the burden of proof.

Also there are many reasons for the mini to outsell the iPad right now, two of which are it being all new and that it is cheaper.

If the mini gets retina they will most likely raise the price. Apple already cut its margins by a lot on the mini, adding retina to it at the same price point will cut the margin even more while drawing sales from the larger iPads. They might do the same thing as they have done to the larger iPads. One cheaper on retina model and a more expensive retina model.

Added to that is we have no idea how an iPad for will look like, could it be smaller with the same size screen? And maybe lighter?[/QUOTE

Some are attributing the sale of a larger ipad due to a bigger screen. That isn't one single thing? So why would I have the burden of statistics and not them?

They made no mention of retina, processor, ram either. I choose to give my point of view, retina drove the sale of a larger ipad more than the screen size.

I doubt the price of the Mini 2 will be $329 personally. If they could sell the prior without retina and the processor along with the ram that it included, why not sell the second for more? I know it hasn't happened in the past with the larger ipads but this may be the first especially knowing folks are chomping at the bit to upgrade or move into a Mini.

No we don't know what which each model will include. But once the Mini was released, we saw that the smaller form factor trumped retina along with the advanced processor and amount of ram AND larger screen size of the brothers. So, ......

Especially if the Mini2 is $329, I would not. I assume it would include an upgrade to the processor as well.

What would be the market for an Ipad5 as you see it?

Sure there will be, particularly if the bezel will be significantly thinner. I'll also prefer the iPad 5 to the Retina Mini, particularly if the latter has an inferior CPU (as does in the current incarnation).

I believe Apple will release a slightly crippled iPad Mini 2 compared to the iPad 5, most like iPad Mini 2 will be based on the iPad 3 technology, as the current one is based on the iPad 2 ... this justifies the lower price.

I know that. I just asked that question to point out to the OP that there are two size options for the MBP Retina. just like there's going to be two size options for iPads with Retina display. and it all depends on each person's preference.

Ah OK. My bad.

I had the mini before caving in and buying the full size this weekend.

It is fantastic. It is a much fuller computer replacement for me (laptop only, I still have a very capable desktop). It is much better than the mini I have that is now for sale.

The screen was the biggest problem on the mini. The weight is good but I find the screen too small. The ipad 2 seemed better with its larger display, it was just a poor resolution instead of being a poor resolution AND small on top of that.

Retina makes a big difference and so does the bigger screen. I just got the 4 so I doubt I'll care about the 5 for a while. Don't want the first gen of a redesign; they are never problem free :D

For those People who like device with lagre screen, they will choose the iPad 5, not the iPad mini. Very suitable for reading, playing games and watching videos.

I also decided to go for the 4 after owning the Mini. Nothing wrong with the latter for the price as we have seen many purchases. BUT I already owned the Nexus 7 so I had portability and better resolution and if I was going to own an ipad, it would need to be the 4 to make me feel it more worthwhile with more longevity. The original Mini would just keep me wanting more in the long run with a faster turnaround to upgrade.

I guess some may contend the Mini is "crippled" to begin with for the price but I know where you are coming from. To release an upgrade to the Mini with the deck stacked even more strongly in its favor over the original will only strengthen its sales versus larger ipads.

Will Apple care? Maybe not but I feel strongly they have something up their sleeves but crippling the next Mini is not necessary. Wasn't the first time for $329 which is a big cost savings over $499. That IMHO was a very very big reason why it smashed the larger brothers and I'm sure Apple had no idea given the specs as well it would do that. So much talk about the resolution did not stop folks going for it regardless of those specs as well.

So what to do? Price the two models more closely is a possibility but even still it might not matter given what it seems folks wanted more the first go around. Or maybe release the ipad 5 first and make them wait for the second Mini? We know how folks gotta have the next great thing. I better stop giving Apple some ideas. :)

I know where you are coming from and appreciate your posts. I only take offense with something derogatory that crosses the attitude line.

I was in the market for a MBP. Got an ipad with retina instead, nowhere near 15". Haven't added a keyboard yet but that is probably next. :)

I'd want the iPad mini retina only if the possessor is upgraded. Using my Sony Mdr1-bt headphones, listening to iCatcher and using goodreader makes my current mini stutter...

The mini already killed the large iPad in sales. Not going to get any better if Apple does a $329 retina mini. If anyone has data to prove me wrong I'm all ears.
One of the positives about the Apple ecosystem is also one of it's down falls. Other than screen size why buy a faster iPad 5 when an upgraded iPad mini will run every app designed for an iPad? Will a 1 second speed difference make you spend more money with the added bulk?
I would love to have a $329 retina mini over a $500 iPad 5 just because I don't like the size and it's cheaper. If all the apps run on the mini what other benefits do I have with spending more?

I sold my ipad 3 for the mini. I love the mini but also like the bigger screen size of the iPad 3. It will be interesting if I want a retina mini or iPad 5.

I have two iPads already and I'm interested in the iPad 5 for the form factor I don't walk around with an iPad I have my iPhone 5 when I'm out so a mini is useless to me. iPad 5 all the way.

If the iPad 5 takes on the body of the Mini and becomes a lot thinner and lighter then I think I'd rather get the full sized iPad.

iPad 5. I already have a portable device with a retina screen. An IPHONE. Jesus people, how many gizmos do you have to have distracting you from your friends and kids..
Sorry I just had to get that one out of my system

I am because ipad 5 is normally bigger and faster than the mini and I want to watch movie with good experience

You say this with a straight face after telling us you have an iPhone and you'll be getting an iPad?

Seems like you have some devices to ditch if you want to be a better person as well.

And with a name like three penis wine, I wouldn't want you around my kids, that's for sure.

it depends...

I'm considering whittling down to only iPads and maybe the iPhone for a lot of reasons.

If the iPad 5 has the same battery life, retina and is lighter than the 4, I might try it. If not, then the Mini 2 with Retina (if it has the same weight/battery life) might be the way to go.

Scratch that...

---

After really doing the math and realizing I still need a computer ( including a screen that benefits my vision), I am still a long way off from iPad only. I love the portability of the iPad mini, but typing on it is a royal pain, even with external keyboards and Siri.

So iPad5 probably not, especially since I am now considering an rMBP to replace my iMac. I would rather put that $ into a fully loaded machine since that will save money. I'm so twitchy about iPads anyway.

Future iPad minis? Yes, definitely. Will pass on and/or sell.

Took the words out of my mouth.

We have read reasons why the larger screen is desirable.

The price is going to be a big factor. IF they increase the price for a Mini 2 (for argument's sake) that may change decisions. BUT folks desiring the larger screen of the 5 and the rumor I linked elsewhere about a much more thinner and lighter ipad folks thought possible than the larger ones, well ......

The Mini will never have the same specs as the full ipad. So people who want a fast processor, a big beautiful screen, and aren't babies** who think 1.3 pounds is heavy are the market for the iPad 5. I have a Mini and due to my pants not having massive pockets, I still have to carry it in a bag, so there is no inherent portability advantage to the Mini for me.

** Or people with legitimate medical reasons like those suffering from Baby Wrist Syndrome. :D
