I don't understand why they don't just use the same body, but utilize the wasted space, if they play on going with the longer iPhone. They could just remove the physical home button and make the screen taller.

I prefer a bigger 3:2 screen, thankyouverymuch.

16:9 on a tablet sucks.
What? No! Everithing else than 16:9 means black bars on youtube.
/sarcasm,

I feel you, man.
When someone tells me how 16:9 is better, i just wanna slap him in the face.

i like 16:9 better for the simple fact you see more...same with TV....i would rather have 16:9 with black bars than 3:2 and lose the video on the sides

And how do you go to the home screen? There still wouldn't be enough room for a gesture. and remember that Apple's design language puts obviousness first. A single button is obvious, a gesture isn't.

that would not be a hard thing to implement...honestly.

Yes, but it's harder to reach the top of the phone if it is wider. It restricts the ability of your thumb to move. Taller but not wider is still easy to reach the top.

Right, which is why I think the phone will be the same or similar dimensions, with a larger screen (ie less bezel) that was it would cater to both crowds: the ones who want a larger screen and those who don want the physical size of the phone to increase

Don't really care. I'm fine with 3:2 and I wouldn't mind if the 16:9 rumors are true either, as long as they keep the device itself compact and not much wider than current devices.

Do you people have little child hands, I can use a HTC oneX with one hand no problem. You folks with little baby hands are just going to have to get used to bigger screens because I think you are in the minority here.

4.5" would be a fair compromise in my opinion.

I am 6'3 with large hands and prefer a smaller phone. Is really don't like huge android phones. I suspect some of us use the phone more as a tablet/computer/game machine than a phone/email/quick lookups machine so asking for a huge phone makes sense for those people.

It would be nice if they sold two form factors.

I personally think 3.5" is perfect ergonomically speaking, but as a future developer I'd vastly prefer they kept the aspect ration the same so apps don't have to be completely retooled for one device.

Keep the ecosystem consistent for devs and you're golden.

I'll take the elongated screen if there's a significant resolution bump and some new screen tech involved, the way I feel Is I use my phone in portrait at least 85% of the time anyway so if the resolution is indeed increased with better tech I'll be upgrading no doubt

Everyone is going to say same ratio until apple shows you all the benefits of the screen with their retina display. Then everyone will finally shut up about it

Please, be a prophet here and educate the sheeps.

Tell us about all these benefits to go 16:9 against staying at 3:2 :)

The ones complaining are either midgets or guys with hands the size of of a woman. I handled more friends Galaxy Nexus last week and it's very pocketable and doesn't feel big but then my hands are the normal size a man's hands should be. 4 inches is just a way for Apple to pacify the critics and it's still gonna lag behind the competition with that slight increase.

I prefer 3:2 aspect ratio because that will mean EVERYTHING on the phone is bigger. The apps and their titles are bigger, text is bigger, the keyboard is bigger... Going to 16x9 does not help with reading text at all. It just shows more on the screen, which I do not feel is necessary.

The number one thing I do not care about with the taller iPhone... The 5th row of Apps... I have my homepage set with all the Apps I use every single day almost + a few I use more often than others (which are only there to fill the page up. I do not want more apps on that page, but I like everything to look the same, so I want every page of apps to be full. I am a little OCD. Back when the iPhone had only 14 apps (not counting docked Apps) on Page 1 when you first fired up the phone... I had 4 pages of Apps... Each page had only 14 apps on it (this is to give perspective on why I do not care to have a 5th row and to show how I like it to all look the same). When I swipe between pages of the Home Screen, I want their to be an App in each location.

I am personally not a fan of the folders, I use the folders option to get rid of the dedicated Apps that I never use (compass for example).

Also, people keep saying 16:9 is better for video... When it comes to movies, They are rarely filmed using 16:9... Most of the time they are filmed much wider, which is why there are still black bars on the top and bottom of the screen when watching a Blu Ray movie on an HDTV. TV shows are 16:9 most of the time for HD because they are filmed for TV's.

To the OPs question, I see very little advantage to having a taller screen that's still as skinny as it is now. My problem with the iPhone is that the screen, overall, is too small. Height only is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard of on a device as small as the iPhone.

Now, if you're dealing with a 4.5 or 5" screen, then you can afford to go 16:9 because the base width in portrait is large enough to be practical.

They can make the iPhone 10" tall and it won't change how small everything is on the screen and how much you have to zoom to actually do anything.
