  • Allowed only 1 iPhone X per person (no matter if you’re buying outright or carrier locked)
  • Locked the iPhone X to the person’s Apple ID for 3 months so no one else can use the phone other than the person who bought it (still returnable within 14 days of delivery/pickup)
  • Made it ‘pay full amount’ only (no instalments/iUP)
Half of the shortage issues of iPhone X would be immediately get sorted, because this would mean more people would have a chance of getting one. No scalping, no hoarding, etc. Almost every single person pre ordering it on 27/10 would get one on 03/11!

This strategy, if used during any kind of Apple pre order, would literally solve half the supply/demand issue, and later when there’s good supply, Apple can offer other avenues of getting the product.

Would never happen. I'm sure Apple would prefer the appearance of a feeding frenzy from the git go to build momentum.

If I was the CEO this is what I would do :) it would make more people happy! I would understand the frustration of customers and offer something that is fair! And it wouldn’t change how much money the company earns because the amount of X’s sold would be the same, but more people would be happy!

Good idea, however as long as the iPhone gets sold, that's all that matters, what happens after with the phone doesn't matter for Apple

I'm on your side however people tend to go nuts when they see others get what they can't and will do everything possible to get one ASAP.

Better option is to just make enough for everyone so scalpers get screwed... that's what Tim Cook is going to do. Scalpers are wasting their time and their money, they are going to get DESTROYED by Tim Cook's supply chain monster.

So basically limit who can buy the phone to those with cash upfront and prevent people buying multiple for friends or gifts or any other reason....

Stupid idea. Shouldn’t ever be implemented because it’s discrimination.

This would reduce sales and demand, great idea for money hungry Apple.

This Tim Cook era isn't about making more people happy except their shareholders.

Scalpers/hoarders can work as a syndicate. Per person limit won't affect groups.

Limited to one would be a daft idea... what if husband and wife want a phone and the husbands job is to buy two? Some have a ritual to go together and get their devices there and then. This will spoil that, I don’t support it. Granted limiting it to 3 maybe is ok but any more they have to transact in new batch.

I do agree with locking the Apple ID down to a phone for three months. Even one would be good. Scalpers need to be stopped.

Yes! They should also administer a lie detector test and ask if you plan to resell. AND they should do a background check to see if you've ever been arrested for scalping. You should also have to pass a sobriety test so that if you are caught reselling your phone by the CIA (Central iPhone Agency) you can't say you were drunk when you bought it and didn't understand the rules. And finally, you should have to swear under oath, with your hand on a Macintosh II manual, that you will not resell.

I’m sure cook knows what he’s doing. Apple’s revenue has only grown leaps and bounds since he became the CEO. His major responsibility is towards the shareholders while keeping the customers happy. That’s how a corporate company should work and cook has done a great job so far.

That’s why you are not CEO of apple. I really like the points to made in your thread though. I was also thinking apple require Social security number to reduce hoarding. You know hoarders don’t just buy 2 they have techniques to buy even more than 10. On eBay every year some sellers sells more than 2 probably 10-15.

A company can’t make shareholders happy unless the customers buy their products and are happy also.

People are happy though. They’re selling more devices each year. A few Mac rumours users aren’t people, isn’t it.

Scalping will never stop, but it is possible to slow them down depending on available stock and how ordering online has primarily become predominant. The issue with scalping, is it takes away from the consumer who legitimately wants an iPhone without paying absorbent prices, which a scalper will sell online for more than 2 to 3 times the value.

fix supply issues
apple fruite inc could double the price for the 1st three mo. on a new product
