Yes I know.

I prefer the Apple watch.

But again, one is a pro photo, taken to hide the bulk of the Apple watch.
the Apple watch could be 1mm thick in that photo.

The lower is a quick snapshot, close up which highlights the thickness of the device.

I'm not saying I like the Motorola, only that, at the right angle, it could look a lot better, and hide the depth like the pro Apple photo's are doing

Take this photo, put it on a thin girls wrist and the Apple watch would look a lot less attractive than in the 2 photo's you selected:

Please note: I LIKE The Apple watch.
But you can see a 'Favorable Photo' taken at just the right angle.

Same with anything.... Even women :)

Would that also be a:

Lol @ Tablet smaller than 9.7"
Lol @ Thought of a plastic iPhone
Lol @ Apple bringing out a giant sized iPhone

Just because Apple have not done something now.
Don't be so confident they won't do something different in the future.

A better comparison would be if a company released a round smartphone.

There's a problem with the Motorola: there's no problem with it.

Nobody is going to say "I don't like it", because its nothing, it's a cylindrical case with no personality.

Some people like what everybody likes.

Other people when they like something at first, the more others hate it, the more contempt they are, and the more they like it.

It's like dog people vs cat people.

I like both dogs and cats, but I hate toyotas Camry's

I think the :apple:Watch is a better design. Square makes sense from a design standpoint. There's a reason you don't see circular monitors and devices everywhere. Rounding off the edges sacrifices so much real-estae, and when you have a small screen that space is especially important.

I have a feeling that smart watches are moving the trend towards square faces anyway. In a few years from now, circular shapes will seem pretty vintage, since the majority of people will have grown up with a square-shaped smart watch on their wrists. The only people I know that still wear traditional watches are elders. I don't need a watch to appease their style. I want one where function is the most important factor.

Ok then,

I argue, that a smartwatch is not primarily a watch (which you illogically refute). It serves a unique functionality to perform bite-sized tasks that become too fidgety for your phone, computer or tablet....

Then why didn't Apple define it as such? When Apple revealed the iPhone, they called it a "Phone, iPod, and Web Browser". They fundamentally created a new product category (finger based smartphone) and then went on to define it.

When they revealed the iWatch, they didn't define it as anything new. So we're left with the definition already in place by the Moto 360 (any every non-smartwatch before it), which is that of a watch (circular, tells time) that does a few other things. Even the UI on the moto is designed for telling time first, and auxiliary features second.

I owned the moto 360 for a week, just returned it today
..it was a great watch and all, and while on the watch face or turned off the round display was great, but for everything else having the round display was a drag.

..text would constantly get cut off, buttons in apps would be off the screen and unusable

The square face just works ..i dont see :apple: switching to a round face in the future at all

Oh, so the square shape is for the youngsters and the round ones are for the elders ? Funny how the history repeats itself. How about your "elders" who used to wear these square touch screen watches in 1984 - so 30 years ago ?

It's simply a matter of preference. I love square watches like the Cartier Tank Francaise. It's a classic thats been worn by many classy women including Mrs. Obama, Jackie Kennedy, and Princess Diana.

Here is the aWatch size needed to offer the same info. That a LOT of extra watch size for the same amount of info.

Sold out means it exceeded expectations and that they are on a right track.

Somehow when Apple sells out, it's because Apple artificially created a limited supply, didn't make enough, fudged numbers, sheep buying, etc.

Why in this case does 'Sold out' mean a good thing?

I should point out you need to edit that image.

You DO realise, or perhaps you don't. That Apple have put quite a large, dead black border/bezel around the screen.

The display does not go very near the edge of the Apple Watch screen
* Which is a dam shame *

You are encapsulating the dead bezel area inside your circle, so that's a bit misleading

I hope Apple improve this in time

We all understand the arguments for a bezel about the screen on the iPhone or an iPad, but there is no reason to, and looks nasty, on the iWatch as any image will have a black frame, and THEN the metal of the watch.

It would look a LOT nicer if the screen went almost right up to the frame, perhaps 0,5 to 1.0 millimeters away.

It's not misleading, it is relative. The bezel border would reman constant despite the shape. There is no technical reason that the bezel area be larger on a rectangle than on a circle. That is an altogether other argument.

To make it round is just trying hard to make something that is not a watch pass for a watch.

Square watches are less common, it is a feature that the Apple "Watch" is not round, if anything.

I'm a thin woman with small wrists. I like the :apple:watch. I have a lot of watches in my collection, though I rarely wear them anymore. I've got an almost equal number of square and rectangular watches as I do round ones. I inherited a few circa 1940's watches from a great-aunt and most of them were square shaped. It never occurred to me that a fashionable watch has to be round. Or small. I've got some real monster sized watches meant to be worn with sweaters and jeans.

The gold Apple Watch with the red band looks a lot like a Seiko I bought in Japan about 20 years ago.

Anyway, to me it's not just a watch or even a watch at all. It's an interface for all the additional things I'd like to be able to do with my iPhone. I get my childhood dream of having super powers via a box on my wrist (electracomp) like Electrawoman and Dynagirl (Google them if you want to see a huge awkward electronic device strapped to a womanly wrist)! :p

Sold out means it exceeded expectations and that they are on a right track.

But what were those expectations? Were they high or low? I think the Moto 360 is too big. But a smaller circular screen can't display as much data.

It's also relative. It's likely the Moto had an initial run of 50,000 or so units. Apple will probably do an initial run of 1,000,000 or so. So how do you compare both selling out?

What about them? Fashion and trends are cyclical.

I guess they have a lot to improve.

Nice attempt at finding the worst possible pic of the 360 there.

Why don't we be honest? If the Apple Watch was round the people here would be calling square watches crap. If Tim Cook took a crap in a bag everyone here would be calling Apple Poop 'magical and revolutionary'.

If you need a good example, just look at how most people here bashed the leaked iPhone 6 pics, and now most people say it looks good here now that they know it's real.

To put it in layman's terms: The Moto 360 isn't designed by Apple, so according to most people here, it's crap. However, if Apple ever releases a circular watch, all the people replying here would do a 180 and praise Apple in every way. It's best not to even ask why they do.

The only good pics are the renders and those taken directly above (which hides how thick and a visual monstrosity the Moto 360 is). There's a very good reason why the Moto 360 website and even the commercial would only show pics taken directly above ;)

If Apple released the Moto 360, I'd still be saying it's way too big. Size was my biggest concern about the Apple Watch prior to release. I could get on board if the Moto 360 was 6mm-8mm smaller around, but then you'd have a much smaller amount of usable LCD real estate to deal with...which is, again, the reason why a square Apple Watch makes sense.

I would much rather have a 38mmx34mm square watch than a 46mmx46mm round watch. As I've mentioned before, I sometimes even wish my Omega, at 39mm across, was a little smaller, and I'm 6'1". It's just a matter of taste.

This will probably be forever debated for smart watches unless someone comes out with a revolutionary UI for round screens.

It may not be possible because text is best displayed on rectangular surfaces.
That has been true since the papyrus and I don't think it's for lack of ingenuity we don't have round face books.

Why are you showing a "male" version? Try this 38 mm "ladies" version:

But then again, I know quite a few thin women who rock big ass watches as it's their style.

yup.
this is about as thin as they come.

also if she were wearing the 42mm, it will look big enough to be one of those big women watches you're talking about.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I just received an 8GB Nano yesterday, and have 2 LunaTik bands on the way. I guess that I'm one of those oddballs that doesn't need my smartwatch to be THAT smart. :D
A brief update. I've gotten 5 days of use on a single charge (6th gen Nano), not too much listening to music and podcast yet. I wanted to see how it would perform as a simple wristwatch (I've always worn watches). Next test will be listening to music and podcasts... after that, will be how quickly it will run down continuously playing a slideshow.
