I wouldn't upgrade if it has 4 core AX CPU and bigger 4GB RAM until I want to see Apple and other developers starting working Pro version apps.

I bought the 12.9 at launch and then bought a 9.7 pro right after I got my 15" 2106 MacBook Pro because it was cumbersome to have both Mac and iPad in my bag. The 9.7 to me seems lacking. I loved the Smart Keyboard on the bigger iPad but it's way too cramped for me on the 9.7. I'm really hoping we get something amazing for the new 12.9 pro because I want to go back to it. I've decided that it needs to have true tone, home "button" like the 7, and 3d touch before I buy. I would accept using the pencil for 3D Touch, it is pressure sensitive after all.

These were my thoughts exactly. After using the 12.9, the 9.7 especially with that tiny Smart Keyboard felt cramped and rushed out as a panic for not enough people purchasing the 12.9. Also, the 9.7 is so light that using it with the Smart Keyboard on any other surface than a table was out of the question. Even then, it would come off too easily due to a lack of weight to balance the angle.

Increased response to a Apple Pencil, Apple Pencil 2, More Ram. More Battery life !, wider colour gamut, reduced bezel, better palm rejection, better camera.

True Tone has its uses for reading books etc but as far as movies, art, documents it can be a problem as it can skew the colour. It makes it look as if it was paper in your light conditions. I'd like a setting so it will set it to paper in daylight 6500k conditions. So Even in a dim room the iPad ensures what I am seeing is giving me good colour/ brightness, contrast and hue accuracy so when I print it and look at it the next day it is what I designed.

If the new Pro 10.5 has a quad core I honestly wouldn't give a crap. My 9.7 is fantastic and I've never found it limited by the processor. I'm not an app developer though.

Have you tried opening really intensive heavy websites like TMZ or WWE.
I see a lot of lag and jerkiness even with my 9.7" Pro.

Unfortunately, JavaScript is single threaded. You're more likely to benefit from faster cores than having a quad-core CPU. This is why I went the Pro 9.7 route instead Air 2, aside from the 256GB storage. A 15% faster bump in multi-threading optimized apps versus tri-core A8X means around 50+% improvement in single threaded tasks.

12.9" is of course better than 9.7" in many ways apart for the portability issue.

I have both with Smart Keyboard and the 12.9" is better for work. I can't type easily with the tiny 9.7" model.

yeah smart keyboard is a must for the 12.9

I miss the 12.9 for the keyboard alone..

Yeah with TMZ I found there was lag but that could be just because TMZ has tons of media on their website. My desktop does the same thing.

I mean it's bigger, but I've been able to type on the 9.7 Smart Keyboard really well
