I read the thread, it didn't sound like you were joking.

Seriously, the claim that my secret clandestine sources that I can't disclose revealed the name of the Apple Tablet to me, and later "My sources confirm that this thread will be dismissed off hand" didn't clue you in.

I think your sarcasm detector blew a fuse.

Anyways, I'm out for the weekend. Have fun here.

I think your sense of humour blew a fuse.

In your threads? I tried, it's not really happening.

If you don't enjoy posting here, why do you? It's an internet forum, it doesn't really matter, all that matters is if you enjoy the time you spend here or not.

My last post here before leaving work for the weekend but it absolutely astounds me how so many here refuse to acknowledge the point that people don't want to buy and pay for the same movie twice.

Tons of us have HDTV setups with 5.1 or 7.1 sound, blu ray players and blu ray movies to boot.

And we don't want to have rebuy those exact same movies that we already own, on iTunes in inferior quality (heavily compressed, 720p, stereo sound only and lossy audio), just to be able to watch those movies when we're out of the house or traveling.

Seriously, wikoogle is spot on. The number of apologists in this thread is astounding, but it's the same thing every time Blu-Ray comes up.

The irony!

Watched a Blu-Ray movie today and they were advertising a new feature that lets you copy the movie to your laptop and transfer to your portable devices... In the demo photos they show a Macbook Pro and an ipod touch or iphone... Of course they removed the brands from the devices, but the irony they are showing someone sticking a blu-ray drive in a macbook pro and yet we may never see a blu-ray drive in it!

That's not the bluray disk; it's the electronic copy DVD that comes with some bluray purchases and that copy is nowhere the quality of the bluray.

Cheers,

I'm waiting for the update then probably getting an Envy. The quote in the opening post convinced me.

Intel Core i7-720QM 1.6
6gb ddr3 ram
500gb 7200rpm
ati 5830
15 cells of battery 6 cell plus 9 cell slice
build quality is excellent on par with the mac, mine doesnt feel cheap at all but id still give the edge to apple because its the original
screen WOW, the envy at 1080p destroys the macbook pro, at its lowest brightness its equivelent to the pro at 3-4 notches, best laptop screen ive ever used and i really hope apple goes 16:9 the form factor is so much sleeker
performance well in everything the hp feels much faster, the i7 is an amazing processor
heating- some review units have been getting hot, note that this were rev 1, mines a rev 2 and it has no cooling issues, it does get mildly hot tho but hp has done a good job on cooling
keyboard- its great no backlight but they both feel identical no flex at all.
battery. heres where the pro shines but this is due to the i7 and the gpu, on the 6 cell i get 3 hours and with 15 cells i get around 6 hours, the pro gets 7 hours, here brightness is at half and office with web browsing.
Speakers- hp destroys although not as loud as the pro the sound is so much richer and has less distortion
Im glad i went with the envy, its the best laptop ive ever had and i strongly reccomend it those willing to use windows 7. Also i find it rather odd that my laptop has better specs than the 27 inch imac

We'll never see HDMI or Bluray.

Apple developed mini display port for a reason. It serves as a DRM device that have the ability to block signal from your mac to non authorized devices. (evil apple). Ironically it only managed to anger Apple own costumers when frustated iTunes fan boys who owns content that played on their older notebooks would be prevented from playing on external displays with the new macbook line.

So we wont see hdmi on a apple computer. Period.

Bluray is also against Apple "tech policy". They want you to stream HD content from Itunes, dont forget it.

I would like to see a better discrete gpu, room for one more disk (option to remove superdrive and install a second drive), rounded edges, i type at weird positions and my pulse hurts and upgraded CPU.

I have a 17 inch unibody mbp, i download tons of HD itunes movies, and i have to say that blu-ray is soooo much better than the HD itunes content or dvd's. watching the screen of my laptop and my friend's laptop with blu-ray i wonder why i bought a 2700 dollar mac instead of building a 2500 dollar hackintosh laptop with bluray, i7, and ati graphics

a company has developed a mini display port to HDMI adaptor, and the minidisplay port is capable of 1080P video output, so there really is no need to have a HDMI port on the mbp

Except that the display port won't output HD-audio, so before it does, it by no means replaces a dedicated HDMI port.

The displayport spec includes audio. Apple just chooses not to support it. Most of the mini-displayport to hdmi adapters even state audio is supported if audio is passed through by the system.

I'm actually happy that Optimus is ruled out for OSX. Maybe this means we will see the ATI 5830 GPU in the MBPs.

Do you guys think Apple might have seen on the feedback before they finalized what to do about the next update and realized that people are really expecting an update this time around, with the ATI 5830, Blu Ray and i5 and decided to go back to the drawing board and give it's customers what they want, even if it means the update will be late by a few months?

I hope that's what's causing the delay.

People have been asking for Arrandale (i5), Blu Ray and the latest ATI gpu (5830) for several months now, so it's not out of the realm of possibility is it?

Yes some people (a tiny fraction of Apples consumer base) have been waiting for an Arrandale CPU refresh on the MPB's, but this doesn't make the tiniest difference in their decision making process.

Im sorry, but you'd have to be delusional to think they were about to release a MPB refresh then went back to the drawing board because they saw the "If the next MBP doesnt have i5, Blu Ray & ATI" thread on a rumors forum, luuulz

I think it's pretty clear that a lot of us hinge on the i5/i7 and the better GPU, but desire for BlueRay is NOT universal. I for one, would be far more appeased by the option of NO optical drive, but a second HD instead (without having to do this aftermarket).

I would like a 2nd drive as well. I rarely use my optical drive, and this is with offering photo CDs as part of my photography buisness. Most people want a USB thumb drive in my market.

I would also like to see Apple drop the silly SD Slot. I run professional grade Canon cameras, and sometimes Nikon. All of which utilize Compact Flash. Having an Expresscard/34 (preferably 2.0 if it is ratified soon) is much better for me, or simply removing that and having USB 3.0, additional iEEE 1394 (of ANY speed), or eSATA would be a much better option than an SD card slot.

I have one consumer grade camera that has SD, and I don't ever take it out of the camera, the USB connection to the laptop from camera works just fine.

urmmmm just a small prob

urmmm not to throw a spanner in the works but..... i realise that in US you dont get very good broadband, but euro and the rest of the world has cable as a pretty much standard for high end ISP. sorry but your attack on digital distribution is not really very sound.

Also to be honest, I dont think either apple or the film studios care about you needing to buy 2 copies of a film.....thats capitalism for you

Fact is blu-ray is dead..sorry...sales even now still don't surpass bog standard DVD's. As for putting the drives in laptops, completely and utterly pointless. 1080p quality....on a 15" screen.........it is a bit like those indian fakirs who make sculptures out of grains of rice.
First, let me say that I have no disagreement with your thesis that the technical obstacles to putting Blu-ray drives in Mac laptops may be too formidable to overcome, at least for the near future. Nevertheless, I believe your assertion that "blu-ray [sic] is dead" is misinformed. I am a home theater hobbyest and have closely followed the growth of Blue-ray in the market. As a matter of fact the sale of Blue-ray discs has increased dramatically because of the continuing penetration of HDTVs into homes. "According to Singulus Technologies AG, Blu-ray is being adopted faster than the DVD format was at a similar period in its development." Further, Blu-ray player prices fell below $100 during the 2009 Christmas holidays. In short, no matter what Apple does, Blu-ray production and sales will keep on growing for the foreseeable future.

Oh I love it...wikoogle pleae go home get your delusions out of your head....maybe take some ritilin....or maybe stop taking ritilin.

Anyway, facts are the 330m is going into the new mbp's. 'optimus' is worth more to apple than any other thing as it fits their 'just works' philosophy. They really would prefer to avoid the clunky log in log out display switching effort at the moment.

So to reiterate you won't be getting blu ray
you will be getting nvidia
you won't be getting hdmi
you won't be getting a sens of humour anytime soon either

please just put us all out of our misery; go and buy an envy and belm on thei forums "I couldn't get all the way through the dark knight on one battery waaaaaahhhhh and the high def audio was useless thru a set of $20 headphones waaaaahhhhhhhh"

"either you're with us or against us"

unfortunately this is attitude of you, and many other Apple fanboys resort to when any criticism is done against your god that is Apple

There is nothing special about "Optimus" and it is not a platform exclusive for Apple. In fact, NVidia hasn't even announced Optimus for any Apple computers. Everything has been based on rumours so far.

What we do know is that Windows 7 users will be getting NVidia Optimus, not Mac OS X users. Meaning they will likely get it before Apple users will. And that's a "fact", unlike yours, or most of anything that's been said in this thread. No one knows what Apple will put into their MacBook Pros yet.

The one attitude I can't stand, is when people defend Apple for not putting high end components into their mackbook pros. What is wrong with us wanting top of the line specs for a PRO model? Sure, maybe you dont want it, but its not unreasonable to want blu-ray / hdmi / usb 3.0 in their top of the line product.

Agree 100% with you, I hate this apple attitude people have.

Since we're 'sic'-ing, you might want to fix that. ;)
Touche! That was my bad. What is it they say about glass houses and throwing stones?:) In my own defense, I post a lot about Blu-ray in another forum and most of us there use the acronym BD for Blu-ray disc. Thus, I was out of practice. Other excuses may follow as I think of them.

I am not entirely certain that your post was directed to my earlier post concerning Blu-ray. In the event it was, though, please reread my post, and note that I conceded your point that Apple won't be adding Blu-ray to its lineup anytime soon, then perhaps we can discuss further the issue I did raise. Recall, I only disagreed with your assertion that, "blu-ray is dead." Can anybody say "non sequitur?":) More seriously, if anything in your post was meant to be funny, I confess that I missed it. Anyway, so that we are clear, I agree with you that Apple probably won''t be adding either Blu-ray players or HDMI ports very soon.

Chill dude, not against you..

Was merely pointing out the facts.

All of which are available above.

I conceded your point that Apple won't be adding Blu-ray to its lineup anytime soon

With today's release of Make MKV 1.5, it's probably irrelevant that Apple won't support Blu-ray Disc playback. Make MKV now has UPnP streaming server, so it should be able to decrypt the disc and stream it to Plex for playback.

For all intents and purposes, Blu-ray Disc playback is already available for OS X.

I completely agree, especially when Apple products are priced the highest on the market.

The markup on things like the iPad is completely ridiculous.
