In my case, I am thinking I may have to actually go and stand in line at the Apple Store on launch day. That day should be after my end of contract day, but the pre-order date will be before then; assuming they do pre-orders (which I bet they do).

Ohh no I will have already paid my bill for that month and say after September I'm done and move over to Verizon ... I may lap a payment for a couple days is all ... I won't pay a 100 early cancellation for a couple days ... I'll just run it till I get the the Verizon phone is all.

BUT that I'm 95% sure will be a mute point cause even it gets that far and me threatening to leave if they don't let me upgrade a few days early saying I will cancel service and go to Verizon will For Sure get them to let me upgrade a Mere Couple Days early.

So ya I think most here are right ... I should be fine ... and being an AT&T customer for geez going on 20 years now I think should be enough to offer me up a coupe days (plus I have NEVER had a late payment in my history so they couldn't ask for a better customer).

I'm sure they'll allow you to upgrade a couple of days earlier. And yeah you're right, if you pay september's bill you wont have to pay ETF.

Call AT&T once they announce preorders (if they do).

They'll bump you up a couple of days. No skin off their noses. Keeps from pissing off customers.

I wonder if Verizon will bump my contract up. We have 4 lines and mine is eligible for upgrade on 10/10/14. Its a bit messed up because of the way I upgraded; when I got my 5 I had an early upgrade by 3 months. If they can bump my contract up by a month I will be happy as I would like to pick it up on launch day. With my 5 it took me a good 5 days to find one in store after Apple launched that service where you could select store pickup after the beginning of October. The day after my contract was up, bam that night a store about 1 1/2 hours away had the model I wanted with my name on it.

I really don't wanna have to go through that if I can just go to the Apple Store 5 minutes away and campout overnight.

If they don't I'll be quite pissed. A customer who always pays their bill on time and has for 22 years, and if they don't do anything I'll be pissed.

Should I go ahead and call in now? Or wait until early September or after the phone is announced?

Why call now? Nobody knows when it will actually launch.

Wireless companies deal in absolutes. What's the rush?

The need to be first.

And sometimes even the day before release day. Feels awesome haveing an iphone thats not officially released :)

I know that feeling! My Verizon iPhone 4 came Feb 7th, 2011 and the release wasn't until Feb 10th, 2011. I ripped it open and plugged it directly into iTunes. I think we all remember our first iPhone. :D

Convenience? To have the iPhone delivered to your door on release day while others are standing in line.

(I think Apple wants people to stand in line.)

Isn't the reason that there was no preorder for the iPhone 5s is because the demand was so high that if they did preorders there wouldn't have been any to go around in the store?

Like the gold iPhone, more people would've bought one of those if they had actually had those on launch day. They didn't.

Pre-Orders will most likely start possibly a weeks after announcement. Apple announced iPhone 5S on Sept 10th, Pre-orders on Sept 17. Launched October. I don't know if Apple will have both pre-orders available on the same day. I don't remember the iPhone 5S & 5C pre-orders schedules. I feel that the larger iPhone will be announced at the same time as the 4.7' model, but will not go on sale at the same time. 4.7' model goes on sale on Oct, 5.5' model goes on sale Nov.

There were no preorders for the iPhone 5s, only the 5c. Also, both came out at the end of September. While a lot of people had to wait till October, it launched around the 20th of September.

Meh. iPhone releases aren't what they used to be. I remember when the 5 came out, my friends didn't even wait in line. They went after store opening in the morning and walked out with new iPhones. And they told me there was plenty left as well!

Same thing happened with the 5S. You could walk into the store a day or two after release and still buy one off the shelf. The *only* shortages were really the Gold color and in some areas the Silver/White. Black was plentiful!

First?

None of us are first.

Nobody can get it until they release it. Why bug your wireless carrier until the 9/9 announcement?

Yep thats why I want it.

I have to have it that day of course and I do not want to wait in line, find a store that has em in stock etc. etc.

Wait up till midnight get online and hope the server doesn't crash a billion times and you can get your pre-order in right away before it happens.

But though it sucks doing all of that is better then sitting on a dirty ol sidewalk in my fold out chair in front of Apple or AT&T all night long.

I am still running iPhone 5 (didn't get 5S ... so I'm ready for a new phone and the pre-orders make it SOOO much easier and convenient.

If the release for iPhone 6 is September 9 based on history when will preorde...

So your saying a lot of the time your upgrade is just available even before your contract end date? Like all the sudden at the beginning of Sep. your fully eligible for and upgrade?

I have been with them FOREVER ... I would assume if I told them to bump me up they would or threaten to leave since my contract is basically up.

I am just a crazy early adopter and will 100% be getting this phone on Day1 but I sure would love it to be easier if I am eligible and ready to go if they do pre-orders.

If your upgrade date is anytime during the month you can always upgrade on the 1st. Been like that for as long as I can remember. So you should have no worries.

I wish everyone luck in trying to get verizon to move up there up grade date. Last year they wouldn't move mine 3 days. I called 7 or 8 times and went to a bunch of stores. I kept getting the same response. They said its not us its Apple and we can't move your upgrade date up. It was only 3 days. It was funny because they had no problem doing it for a android phone. I was pissed

Can anyone confirm this?

So if my upgrade date is September 14th .... your saying it doesn't have be That Day ... it can be anytime within "The Month" of your eligible upgrade?

Meaning of course if it is available for preorder on the 12th it won't matter cause I was eligible starting Sep.1???

Pre order or not I will be ordering as many gold as allowed in my shopping cart, time to make some easy money like last year.

In stores the following Friday... which is 9/19... YEEE
