Did you buy the unlocked one?

I cannot speak for the original poster, but the windows store has a no contract one onsale for $49 dollars. It is unlocked but if you want to add cellular capabilities down the line, you will be limited to AT&T. It will work as a wifi only device like the Ipod Touch.

Did you buy the unlocked one?
No. I purchased the AT&T Go Phone version for $60 at Walmart. No contract, and I am able to swap my StraightTalk SIM from my iPhone 4 to the 520 and back without any issues. (my StraightTalk SIM uses AT&T towers)

That 520 is locked. Locked to AT&T. Other than that, you are correct, it can be used as a wifi only device... and does a fine job.

What case are you using, I cannot find any from the big brands?

Wow, I already use AT&T so I guess I could buy that $50 one swipe it out. Could you give me the link where you can buy it?

The only folks getting iPod touches at this point are kids who cannot afford or do not warrant a cell phone. I thought of an iPod touch for my kids but why buy one now when in a couple of years they will be old enough to have a cell phone anyways.

Sure, but that's a couple of years of use. AND a couple more years where you don't have to pay a cell bill :)

Around me, all the tweens and pre-tweens use iPod touches until their parents decide they need / deserve a cell phone.

The iPod is almost as useful, since they're usually at home anyway, and can use WiFi to Facetime each other. And when they're out, they usually manage to find a hotspot to use. It's only in the car that they have no comms.

Freda is a great ePub reader for Windows Phone BTW.

I love the customization options.

ComicTime is also sweet for comics.

I have no idea about apps that support .flac though. I only used the FM radio and Nokia MixRadio.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Player for a bit. The screen defect prompted me to return it. It was way too bulky too.

The 520 has a 4" display.

I just sold my 64GB iPod touch (4G) for $80 on Craigslist, and then bought a 32GB Samsung Galaxy Nexus for the same price on Swappa. Zero cost to me and I get a 4.7" HD display, miles better camera (5MP, flash, 1080P), much faster 1.2GHz dual core CPU, 1GB vs 256MB of RAM, and it's running Kit Kat. Not a bad deal, Lol.

Really an older Android phone running in airplane mode with WiFi is the next best thing to the iPod touch. And often cheaper.

Plus, it's a backup phone to my iPhone should I loose it or it gets damaged beyond repair.

The Galaxy Nexus is a brick compared to an iPhone. I have one. Haven't turned it on in a while.

I wouldn't call it a brick but, yeah, it's quite a bit bigger. More importantly though, its display, while 720p, is pretty terrible courtesy of its pentile arrangement.

The touch type of product is a slowly dying market. With smartphones available at all price points, there's no point in buying a standalone pmp (excluding tablets).

Man, remember when Samsung was raving about its pentile screen and how it would revolutionize pixel displays? Whew!

Did that Samsung Galaxy Nexus have a sharp screen?

Yes, 1920x720 on a 4.5-4.7" screen. Though, I wouldn't suggest using it as a media player because it lacks any provision for a memory card. Unless you intent on streaming through Spotify.

Google no longer provides updates for that phone so you're stuck with 4.3, or you could try going on XDA as the phone's still being developed on.

It actually has a 1280x720 display resolution--1920x720 would be one long, skinny phone. ;)
