I have iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro MAX and I love them both no issue what so ever

I upgraded from iphone 7 all the way to iphone 12 mini(4 years). Its not worth it. If you have a newer device its even worse since you will see less benefit.

Everything works just the same and while performance is snappier its not $800 snappier. Also if you are a notch hater and home button lover dont. The phone is also heavier and thicker than iphone 7. You are way far better off with SE.

The only people I would recommend to upgrade to the 12 are the following:-
1-You have to have the latest and greatest

2-Camera is most important part of the phone for you, every pixel count

3-You want the most powerful chip to run the greatest and most demanding apps.

4-If you feel iphone 7 screen is too small

If you are a smartphone user who uses social media, emails, web browsing, phone calls...There is no reason to upgrade. If you have to upgrade get SE or wait for the 13 if you feel just fine with the current phone.
I looked very seriously about going from my SE
2002 to the 12 mini, and decided it was not only not worth the added money, it gave me less in terms of a useable phone. I like the Home button and its Touch ID.

I went from a 7 to a 12 mini and disagree with the OP. The camera improvements, bigger screen in a smaller body, and battery life alone are worth it. 5G has not been a big difference for me yet, but I am glad to have it and am sure it will get more useful as time goes on. I am also glad to have the wireless charging, squared off edges, improved drop resistance, and better wifi/LTE performance. I've probably come to like FaceID slightly more than TouchID, but I still consider both to be very good, and there are definitely situations where each is better than the other.

I cannot disagree with the recommendation of a SE, which is a great phone at a great price. However, it has the same mediocre battery life as the 7 and 8 and same lower screen:body ratio. So given that I'll likely keep this two years at the least (and maybe much more, I kept my 7 for 3.5 years), a few hundred more was worth it.

iPhone 6 series are by far the least desirable iPhone ever made
Least desirable? It’s the single best selling iPhone model in the companies history. We are yet to see the kinds of sales of current phones that match or beat it. Sure, we have more models out now so that waters the numbers down a bit but people are also not upgrading as often as they were back in 2014, and that’s across the entire industry.

my first big screen iPhone, loved that 5.5" screen, was handicapped by only having 1 gig ram. 😔

Upgrading to a 6s plus the following year was a breath of fresh air.

I had a 6 for two years and I snubbed the 7 in favour of the 6S to get two more years with a headphone jack. I think the 6S is the best iPhone I have owned to date. I still have it in a drawer and it’s my backup iPhone. People seem to forget how popular the 6 series was I think and the buzz the larger screen iPhones created. Funnily enough I had a launch day iPhone 6 and never experienced the bend gate issues as I never carried it in my back pocket lol.

Totally agree, can't believe how well it still performs for such a old phone.

Yeah the 6 and 6+ was so popular because it attracted many Android users who’s interested on bigger screen iPhone such myself. But I agree the 6S was a far better iPhone and one of the best on the line ups. The 6 was not that much powerful than the 5S. The 6S held up longer with many years software updates due to better specs.
The 6 didn’t get iOS 13 update that brings long tap to reveal contextual menu on app icon, which is a huge deal for me.
And yeap, no bend gate issues too for my 6 years old iPhone 6. Even back when I‘m still using skinny jeans, LOL.

As of right now, I consider my 12 Pro the best iPhone I've had. Slightly smaller in hand than the 11 I had, day to day usage don't notice the improvement in speed.

I'll just wait. Before this I thought the X was the best. But it got downvoted when the Apple store couldn't replace the battery at around 2 years old.

Hopefully for the SE Plus, Apple will take the 8 Plus chassis, put Touch ID on the power button, then decrease the forehead and chin bezels symmetrically so that its a 6.1" screen (selfie camera in the top bezel). Same p3 colour LCD. A14 Chip with 3-4 GB RAM. Nice and simple. Price it at £499, and it will sell very well i reckon.

Would be nice if apple combined 1080p lcd display resolution like in the 8+ with the improvements in colour accuracy from the 11. But somehow I get the feeling they’ll just reuse the 828p display resolution from the 11.

That’s your opinion. You can’t speak for everyone else. If the upgrade is worthwhile for you then do it. If not continue using your current phone. Without a doubt I upgraded my XS Max to the 12 Pro Max and it has been the best decision for ME!

Would you put a new battery in iPhone 6s or just go ahead and upgrade?
Just purchased an iPhone min (as emergency backup) as 6S battery faltering. Will likely get replacement battery (2nd) and save 6S as the future backup. Under normal circumstances would have merely had battery replaced at store.

I came to the same conclusion back in 2019 when I went from an iPhone 7 to an iPhone XS, didn't like it and went back to an 8 because I don't like the notch, AMOLED, poor use of screen space or Face ID (thread here).

I am tempted to get an iPhone SE but I am still on iOS 12.1.4 on my iPhone 8 & iPad Pro 10.5 and am hesitant to update as I don't want to slow down either device. iOS updates can slow down devices (iOS 6 destroyed my iPhone 5, the greatest phone Apple has ever produced) and I don't want to spend the money upgrading my iPad too.

An app I use frequently updated and quit working because of my iOS version (pretty dirty to update if it isn't compatible). If that starts happening to more apps, I'll be pushed into updating....which I worry will push me into buying a new phone AND tablet...neither of which I feel need to be replaced.

I wish my iPhone 8 had more battery life and memory (app reload) but I'll gladly sacrifice both to avoid one of those new iPhones.

Dood, I literally went from an iPhone 7 plus to an iPhone 11 Pro Max (not even a 12). IT IS AWESOME! Everything is way faster, the camera is much better. I don't know how you were using your phone but the 11 pro max is awesome--much less the 12!

I have an iPhone 8 on the latest iOS 14.x and its not slow at all. No lagging or hesitation. It's zippy. No worries. It's fine. I like it better than iOS 13. Speed seems the same as iOS 12.
