So what is the corei7 in the new Mac Pros, isn't it a desktop processor? I have heard before that Apple actually uses server processors in the Mac Pros, but I don't know if there is any truth to that
 
even their previous gen 8 core mac pros were their worst selling machines in their lineups


Uh, that's not exactly a surprise. The trendwhore idiots that Apple markets to these days buy MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and iMacs. The people looking for home servers and media center computers buy Minis, as do people who want to use their own displays and such. The people who actually need a serious computer to get their work done buy Mac Pros. The people who have Apple products just to show off how cool they are don't buy Mac Pros very often.

It's not a Core i7. It's not a desktop processor.

The Mac Pro uses Xeons. Server chips. The 3500 series is a rebranded Bloomfield (Core i7) with ECC turned on.

Gainestown is a true server chip.

The people who actually need a serious computer to get their work done buy Mac Pros. The people who have Apple products just to show off how cool they are don't buy Mac Pros very often.

And thank goodness for that.
