Probably a Blackberry of some kind. I used to have a Windows Mobile phone (Moto Q) before the iPhone - so at least now I know I'll never use one of those again.

I don't have an iPhone, I have the most basic phone you can buy. No insurance to worry about, doesn't matter if it gets scratched, don't care if it gets dropped and nobody in their right mind would steal it.

The reason I have this phone: because up until the iPhone came out, I just saw the whole mobile phone industry as overrated, overpriced and pointless. I'd rather spend out a grand (UK £1000) on a computer every couple of years than pay the equivalent for a simple telephone. And still a big part of me thinks this, but the iPhone is very appealing, and at some point I'm sure I will buy one.

If I didn't have an iPhone....

... I'd have a life and not be obsessing over it 24/7. It's really got ahold of me. It's pretty much taken over me.

If I didn't have an iPhone, I'd either have no cell phone or a simple go-phone like I used to. I go the iPhone to have the internet EVERYWHERE, I don't talk much on it.

I would probably get a simple, and cheap, cell phone and use my touch.

BTW, I am in the process of trying to wean myself from my current cell phone.

Original Razr. iPhone was the only phone that could have convinced me to upgrade. Not because the Razr was a good phone, but because I hate every cellphone except for the iPhone due to their horrible interfaces.

What phone would you use?

For me, I'd either go with the new G1 (when it comes to Canada), a Blackberry Bold, and if I had to scrape the very, very, VERY bottom of the bucket, maybe an Instinct.

What about you?

Same here basically, G1 or BB Bold (the tripple B :p).

Would go with an HTC touch HD when it is launched. Will probably buy one anyway when it is released even though I do have an iPhone I need a phone that can be unlocked and tethers.

The iPhone does both of these, though (well, ya cant unlock the 3G yet, but it wont be much longer).

hhmmmm probably something from the blackberry family. Prolly have my hands some how on the bold

my thoughts exactly. Dam Apple are the only people who tempt me in to the consumer world of gadgets.

SOCKS proxy isn't the same thing as a full tether. I have netshare and I am aware of how it works. I want a phone that actually tethers. Do you have some source for your prediction it will be unlocked soon?

If my iPhone disappear tomorrow, and I couldn't buy a new iPhone, I think I'd pick up the Treo Pro. Maybe the HTC Touch Pro/Diamond or Palm Centro

Edit- Or the Nokia E71, that looks very nice too!

If I didn't have an iPhone, I'd probably have an N95 on my previous network '3', and not be too bothered about the cell phone business.
Now that I do have an iPhone, i've begun to obsess over it, like never before, like what a previous poster said.

Just came from a Blackberry Pearl, and absolutely loved it. I'm now on an iPhone; if I wasn't, I'd probably be on a Blackberry Bold.

Love BB's :) Their e-mail functionality is second to none.

My all time favorite:
