If you had a 7/7+ and went to 8/8+, do you regret it?

Went from a 7 to an 8 Plus.

No regrets!

Seems to be very fast and I'm looking forward to using the improved camera on my upcoming trip.

Tru-tone alone made it worth it for me. My eyes are definitely less fatigued at the end of the day with it. I haven’t sent my 7 back yet and I keep comparing it and the difference is striking.

I went from the 7+ to the 8+ and have no regrets.

I'm on the IUP and was due for my annual upgrade anyway and since I'd pay the same per month for either phone, figured might as well get the newer one for the same monthly payment and also the X as intriguing as it is, just wasn't calling out to me and I didn't feel a need to pay more and then wait a couple extra months (If I'm lucky) to get my hands on one. I do look forward to seeing what next year's version of the X will be and if it's interesting, maybe I'll consider that one. Congrats to all that do get one, I'm sure you'll love it, it just wasn't for me this time around :)

Speed of the 8+ seems a little quicker over the 7+ but nothing mind shattering. I do prefer the Space Gray and glass back over the easily scratch-able Jet Black I had on the 7+, the thing was always in a case a and it still managed to get numerous hairline scratches all over it. The camera however does seem to be a big improvement over the 7+'s already decent camera and I'm enjoying that. I look forward to trying out the wireless charging as soon as I order a wireless charger on Amazon.

Overall a great phone, especially for anyone coming from a 6 or 6s or older however, had I not been on the IUP, I probably would've just stuck with the 7+ until it was paid off next year...

Yeah I was on the IUP as well. The other thing is, I’m not really sure how I feel about the X, and depending on what is released next year, I may not want to upgrade. I figured if I have the 8+, I’ll have no issues going another year with it, whereas if I kept the 7+ I think I’d feel more like I needed to upgrade a 2yo phone.

Honestly, this has been pretty much my favorite form factor, and I really am happy thinking if it is drastically changed next year, I can hang onto this one!

Went from JB 7+ to gold 8+, and returned gold 8+. I knew going into it there wasn't much of an upgrade, but I didn't truly expect the differences to be as little as they were. The internet is in an uproar about how expensive the X is, but the 8 and 8 Plus are the truly overpriced iPhones this year.

yes, because apple made the 7+ slower with iOS 11 LOL

I don't blame you, iOS 10.3.3 is blazing fast compared to iOS 11!

Not according to actual evidence. I've seen multiple videos now of people running iOS 11 side by side with 10.3.3. The only videos where 11 fared poorly was when they were running the test immediately after installing the new OS, which is a bunk test. Tests where the OS has been on the device for a couple of days, the performance is virtually identical.

This is a 10 minute video where you can see them side by side. The iOS 11 device did take a little longer to boot up (about 25s compared to roughly 21s), but that's the only noticeable difference.

Here's a screen shot from that video showing the side by side geek bench scores on a pair of iPhone 7s:

Perceptions of the new iOS being sluggish, or iOS 10 being 'blazing fast' compared to it, are either guessing, imagining it, or were comparing the speeds when the new OS was still re-indexing everything, employing all the new deep learning stuff on the photos in the library, etc, when there's a lot of background CPU going on.

No regrets. Still have the 7, within return window if I so choose. Considered it for a while, but the more I use and look at the 8 the more I like it. Really like the extra heft and new gold.

Does it feel like a brick in your pocket?

I love my 8+ went from a 7+ Black to a silver 8+ and think it is a great upgrade there is way more here then people think and the glass back on the silver model looks great and the wireless charging is super convenient. I just didn’t see what the X really offered over the 8+ to justify the extra cost as the only difference is the display which the 8+ already has a amazing display and then face id which is not different then Touch ID when you think about it and may be less user friendly... and animoji which is a gimmick and something that Samsung would market as a feature and Apple spent more time on this then anything else at there keynote ... I also still love the design of the 8 as I think Apple has refined it to perfection.

Does it feel like a brick in your pocket?
No. About a 10 g or 7% increase
IP7 = 138 grams
IP8 = 148 grams

Hardly rising to the level of “brick”, unless you are incredibly sensitive (or critical) of weight. That said, I also add a glass screen protector, thin crystal case, and Steelie magnet for the car mount. So I am one who doesn’t mind extra weight or wear clothes where extra weight is going to be some sort of issue. YMMV.

Edit to add - the 6s was about 143 grams, and the x will be more. So for those really concerned about weight, this is the world we now live in, for good or for ill. The iOS Wikipedia page lists all devices with their various stats.

I'm super happy with the purchase, although I purchased for reasons other than just wanting the new iPhone. (Switched to T-Mobile, wanted to get a Plus.) The gold is stunning, and I hated every second of putting Apple's silicone case on it immediately after purchase.

I know, Apple should not be applauded for FINALLY adding wireless charging, but I really do love it. I think I've only plugged a cable into it twice, once to set it up and once to charge it in my car. Other than that, I have a charging pad.

Definitely doesn't feel revolutionary or anything like that. I don't think it would be a big deal upgrading from anything but a 6.

I would say it's only "Over priced "depending if somebody like yourself did not appreciate the upgrade coming from a 7+. But from an older model under the iPhone 7, an upgrade to the iPhone 8 is fairly significant. Again, it all depends what someone appreciates and what they're upgrading from.

Well I was finally able to set mine up from my backup last night, and I have to say that after taking a few pictures on it last night, I think I'll be pleased with just the camera upgrade; the pics came out amazing, and I was taking them in low light with uncooperative subjects (grandkids). I can't believe how the portrait ones look - they're awesome!

I need a new glass because the Apple tech removed mine from the 7+ and we put it on the 8 (amazed he got it off without cracking it), so it's not perfect, which makes the phone look a little less than brand new, but in a few days I should fix that.

I'm also trying to decide if I want to change my case. I use a Loopy, and the one from my 7+ fits fine, but I might wanna change it up just for fun!

Not geared towards anyone, but it's funny how things change. A few years ago everyone was complaining about the iPhone screen having a yellow tint.

I hear ya. I thought the same; never thought I'd really care for the true tone, but now that I've used it on my iPad, I really love it, and it is really nice on the phone.

No regrets here either. While I can't claim that it's a lot faster than my old 7+, the newer CPU is nice and snappy and I see a slight improvement. The big things are the glass back(looks so good and I didn't think I'd even care about this), the wireless charging(awesome!!), the TrueTone is nice and is just as good as on my iPad Pro and lastly, the camera improvements. I'll miss having the latest and greatest with the X, but I really like the 8 plus and I will be keeping it for sure.

I have a 7+ on 10.1.1 jailbroken, matte black

Tried a silver/white 8 64gb, and it actually had a nice screen without major flaws, and seamless glass back, but the front wasn't as seamless and the lightning plug wasn't snug (across different lightning cables)

I returned it (sad to return a good screen device, as they seem rare), but ultimately because I didn't want a stock, buggy OS and to play the wait game with my money.

x.0 on new hardware, in my experience, is typically way more buggy and introduces new hardware-specific bugs vs. older hardware on same x.0 (that has been public beta tested for months w/ feedback).

It may also be that iOS 11 is more iPad-centric, but 11.0 GM on my 12.9 gen 2 has been working REALLY well and I'm quite pleased with it, even though its not perfect.

Couldn't justify same form 4th time, for $750 after tax. The glass back is grippy ,but the sides are still slippery and I'd still throw it in a case and then the physical differences would disappear.

The camera differences seemed there, especially a faster shutter across the board, but sometimes not as good as 7+ either, I wasn't as wow'd as I thought I'd be. The speakers seem clearer too, but I don't find my 7+ speakers to be crap at all. And without side by side, I'm caring even less.

the battery life appeared quite impressive for a 4.7" tho!

I just dunno what I'm going to do, but luckily SE and 7+ is still an amazing combo for me.

Could try an 8+ but I dunno if I want to go 128->64, and have two pluses, since I won't sell or offload 7+ until theres another jailbreak to migrate into the new hardware 100% with, and then if I get the overkill 256 its $950, which is nearing $999 for X at 64GB. I also don't mind added heft to 8 ,since I've skipped 4.7" for a solid 3 years now after brief dabbling, but the added heft of 8+ for its size is something I'm not personally thrilled about. 7+ feels better to me,

X seems weak with FaceID/no TouchID (a balance I don't care for, on paper)/the price tag, and depreciation next year will be MAJOR when X-2 or whatever comes out, so I'd only get an X if I knew I'd be holding onto it for a long while.

And if I did, I'd be tempted to cover up FaceID with tape, and go old school pin passcode method, but then its a regression from 7+ and SE with TouchID, and paying $1000+ mostly for trimmed bezels and an OLED panel.

Never been more confused, upgrade path wise, but not fretting either.

Before people say- embrace FaceID its the future, its my prerogative to embrace what I want to and what I don't, just as its yours to embrace it with arms wide open and I equally respect that.

My skepticism surely isn't unique or limited to me

Good iOS lessons- don't sell your old device until you're sure you're happy with the new one and its build and everything, or you'll screw yourself.

Also keep old device on previous iOS while trying new device, that way if you don't like new OS, you got the old one. If you do, you can just OTA it.

If you have regrets, and still have your old device, then by all means, RETURN it.

No reason to live with *regret* of a $700+ device that shares many features of the previous iteration, and past 3 designs.
