A great thread indeed

Very simply:

A new Rev B dual 2.0 with 4G of RAM (all 512 sticks from Crucial), BT, AE. It would be my "work" machine, located in my den; impressive; powerful.

-AND-

A new Rev A iMac G5 20" with 2G RAM (as soon as Crucial gets more stock of these 1G sticks), BT, AE. It would be in the bedroom...quiet; sleek; sexy; powerful...

If it were free, I would immediately grab:

Dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5
1.25GHz frontside bus/processor
512K L2 cache/processor
512MB DDR400 SDRAM
Expandable to 8GB SDRAM
160GB Serial ATA
8x SuperDrive
Three PCI-X Slots
ATI Radeon 9600 XT
128MB DDR video memory
56K internal modem

Of course.
but since I just recently bought:

15" PB 1.5 1 GB ram
23" Al display
2 160 GB ext FW 800 hard drives
bluetooth kb + mousie

So I'm experiencing a state of wallet anorexia. I love my PB though, it has been doing quite a job with at least the capture and transfer of big video files. Surfs the web and reads email pretty speedily too :p. But imagine the render speed of the G5 dual. sigh.

If you had the money, which Mac would you buy today?

What Mac? Hell, I'd buy a BIG mac, with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and cheeeeeeese! Damn I'm hungry. I got the money! Hell, I'm gonna go get one right now.

A Big Mac with Tomatoes?

Big Macs come with cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and "special sauce".

You both should try a heathy alternative of chicken, fish, fruits, and vegetables. Preferably at a restaurant other than McDonald's or other fast food restaurants. Its the fried food and fat. Your body will thank you and you will be around longer to enjoy your Mac.

I would like to update my post.

I would get an übercluster consisting of XServes or something like VT's G5 setup. Then I would place them in one of those abandoned ICBM missile silos that you can buy for a low price. I would use them to to become Overlord of Folding@Home and eventually the entire world! muahahahahahaha!

id start a big ol collection. 512k, lc 2 (remember 'em from 3rd grade), rev a imac, one of every flavor of slot-loading, snow 700mhz imac, g3b&w, 17" 1.25ghz imac, mac portable, tangerine ibook, 12"pb rev c 17"pb rev c (both fully loaded with 7ke60's)and an imac g5 20" with a 73gb raptor and the one i would use: g5 2.5 plus ae, bt, 2 raptor drives, big disk extreme, 6800 ultra, 2x30inchers, 4gb of ram, a lacie dual layer burner in the optical bay...i can dream cant i?

All the Above!

Without the worry about money, i'd have to go for a top of the range PM G5 with all the trimmings and 2 30in displays, well just because I could. One of those would be mounted up on the wall for when I wanted to watch DVD's and the other for regular computing use. But then it would also all be a question of space too. Where the heck can I place 2 30in screens? :p :p

My avatar ain't me, ya know. ;) LOL! Well heck, MickeyDee's has the McNuggets (chicken), Filet'O'Fish (fish), Parfait (fruits) and Fries (vegetables)! We've got it made!

Naw, just kidding. I don't eat there that often. You are right, the fat, calories, and carbs'll kill you at those places.

There was a recent thread on the subject--you can do a search to find it (or Google). I think you can buy the silos for about $1M, which ain't bad for your own underground facility out in the middle of nowhere that's capable of surviving a nuke blast.
