For desktop machines, I'd always make my own — there's a better degree of flexibility and control, and it's also cheaper. So in that case, I probably would not buy a general HP machine.

For laptops, I'd never buy anything from HP as well. If I had a choice, I'd have to go with IBM/Lenovo, even though their laptops are pretty terrible. I say this because, when compared to other laptops on the market, their machines are masterpieces.

actaully ive had pretty good luck with dell in my family my dad has had 3 wich were givin to work after they needed to be upgraded and never had any problems. im staying away from HP/qompaq cause they have this dumb way of having restore disks to wich they partition 6 gigs or so and use that as the restore. and now if you need to replace the hd or get a virus like i did and couldnt even start up to get the reformat ur screwed i had to order a restore cd from compaq 12 bucks and shiping so i had to run Linux on a live cd for a week or two while i had to wait for the restore disk

I dont think that I would ever get a Dell. I never liked them much, and when I think of them, I think of cheap.

i would not buy a HP / Compaq / Acer

The company i work for does warranty work for both hp, compaq and acer. The amount of stuff that has to be fixed is scary

Safest way is to built you own!

Dell, never owned a Dell that lasted more then 2 years...

When windows 7 comes out I hope to build my own PC for my gaming needs. It's so much cheaper, I priced how much it would be and roughly $650 for a pretty nice set up that would be 1.5k+ retail.

I would never buy another HP laptop.

I doubt I would buy any Windows PC but I have a specially bad taste for HP.

Any "all-in-one" type of machine, or any especially small sized laptop or desktop.

If I'm going to get a PC, I want something that is expandable and doesn't make me pay extra for a very cheap and very lame attempt at looking good, which PCs are almost incapable of doing.

I put together my own PCs. Bought one Compaq one time, regretted it, gutted the system and used the case to build my own with a few scrap parts from the machine.

I'll never buy another bundled system again. Only decent thing about them is they often come with Windows and MS Office "free" (yea, not really free, but kinda).

Chalk up yet another one for HP, he he - I voted your way, and it would be interesting to see if HP (or should I call them HP-gate, or Dell were the most unpopular. Sony is also mentioned more than once. But smart money, and unfortunately more money, would have me buy a Sony if I were to buy a full fledged PC and not a PC netbook, which is the only PC that interests me at this point.

If Apple comes out with a netbook (iNetbook), then I will probably never buy a PC again, or for a very long time. While Apple is the innovator, they didn't come out with the first MP3 player or cellphone, so in some markets, even ones they are the world leader in today, they came in late.

If Apple gets a netbook, if priced right, the PC companies' existing versions will look like junk.
