I was tempted by the Silver, mainly due to the bare stainless, but I played it safe and went for SG.
What sealed it for me was examining all the demo phones at the Apple Store during a bit of an interminable wait for a Shirt to take my money.
The PVD-coated SG and Gold phones did home some scratching, but much less than the Silver ones.
Granted, the Silver bands can be buffed out, while the PVD bands cannot, but no amount of buffing could remove the scratches on the bottoms of those phones. Just like the OG iPod 5GB I have.
The debate irked me because there is little reason to have one aside from the fact that Ive likes to design objects to be pretty and admired, not used.
I'd like to see Apple produce a phone inspired by old SLRs. Matte silver and textured black.
