My thought is Apple Watch for "everyday" wear, mechanical watches for special occasions.

At something like a wedding it seems a bit rude to have your notifications showing up on your wrist, as I wouldn't be checking my phone every ten minutes there. So if I did wear an Apple watch it would be in airplane mode.

But what if the notification is, "Bride's stuck in traffic. 30 mins late"

It'll be hard to leave the Apple watch at home once you're dependent on it.

(and on related note, it's going to be hard to ignore texts and calls from folks you'd rather avoid. The old, "Sorry. I didn't hear my phone", excuse is dead.)

Did I say it's going to flop? I simply stated why I don't think Apple watch is going to push the entire watch industry to a "niche market". At least this version wouldn't.

but then again, you have 2 G-Shock watches, not exactly the expert of watch market. ;)

I have a G shock. It's an awesome watch. Most people in the watch world either love them, have one, or respect them. So obviously you have little idea what's going on in the watch world. No one really knows if the Apple watch will take off or not. And you didn't state much of anything. You made no real argument. You simply said something inane about $350 being expensive for a watch. $350 is a nice pair of sunglasses. A nice watch needs a 1 in front. Then again, tech nerds no nothing about style. Watches are about style. This wearable tech thing is too new to really predict. We'll just have to see. Price isn't the issue.

Many years ago I was a huge watch guy.

It's something that I slowly lost interest in as it was a very very expensive thing to be into at the quality that I liked.

For me personally I am going to be into this pretty heavily. I like the fact that there are multiple faces to the watch that are customizable to varying degrees. I LOVE the fact that the bands are so easy to swap out. The fact that the stainless steel band is manually adjustable without having to go to the shop to do it or try to do it myself and spend so much time doing it is fantastic.

For me personally, I plan on treating the Apple Watch SS as a base watch. I'll probably be wearing it during the day with a rubber band. I see myself having a leather band and the stainless steel band to swap out as needed. I'm waiting to feel the watch on my wrist before making any final decisions though.

For me, I trust Apple's build and fit and finish. The "body" is incredibly versatile and elegant. The bands aren't really that bad to me. In the middle-ish range I was in the watch itself with a stainless steel band was I believe $1,300. Any adjustments made to the links cost me $80 to do. Swapping out bands wasn't really an option.

Years later, my wife not really seeing that watch side of me asked me what watch she could get me. I told her not to worry about it. My tastes evolved, and the entry level price for the watches I like now are $2k. I told her not to worry about it and all I want is open permission when Apple comes out with one.

Now, for the price of the watch that I wanted that still goes for $2k, I can pick up a Stainless Steel Apple Watch, with the Stainless Steel band, 2 rubber bands, and a leather band for less then $1.3k before tax. I can add the stainless steel watch with a rubber band, and a leather band for my wife and be at $2.2k. To me this is kind of a no brainer.

The beautify of the Apple Watch is it's flexibility and elegance. Sure it's not a swiss movement. But it's probably going to be immaculate in design and fit and finish. It obviously is incredibly interchangeable as well. Watch needs met.

It doesn't fit in.

But I'm having even more fun with this launch because I have no risk, no desire, just sit back and have a few laughs.

This is one of the best movies yet :)

Good question I have 5 auto Seiko5s, 1 auto Kenneth Cole, 1 Casio solar watch, iPod nano 6thgen watch... Guess it fits in there

I have a feeling I am not going to be using these very much, after using the apple watch for a while. Because of all the different faces and function etc of the AW. The citizen is going to be a must have, for the beach and scuba diving though.
