What happens if you purchase Applecare in a separate order via Apple.com? Do you "link" the Applecare to your phone after purchasing?

Regular AppleCare can be associated with the device later. However, AppleCare+ can only be ordered in association with a specific device.

Its pretty straight forward, make an appointment and go in and get it added on at the Apple Store. I will likely try to get into the store while mine is still boxed up on the 26th, now that the store by mean has quadrupled in size when they opened the new store 3 doors down.

I just sent a 2nd reply to the original email I received from Apple after I placed my order. Not sure why they didn't add it to my orders but I don't want to go into the Apple Store. The one closest to me is always packed. Always!

I was told by Apple that does not work, but I've been told lots of other crazy things... Maybe they will pay for my gasoline for the hassle? LOL

I replied to the AppleCare+ email, but have subsequently heard nothing. If my AC+ email reply went through properly, should I be able to see it listed under my order status at store.apple.com?

My responding email went thru, I got an acknowledgement email today from Apple and it's not showing up at Apple.com > My Account > Orders yet. Maybe it'll show on the details by tomorrow. Like I've said, I'm not worried about it because I have Apple's email as proof. :)

If you haven't gotten the acknowledgement email yet, just give it a day or so.

Didn't work for me. I have now emailed three times and haven't heard back yet.

Update: Just received the email from Apple that Applecare+ was added to my orders. However, nothing changed on my order detail on Apple.com. Oh well - this is progress at least.

My thought is that when we go to Apple.com to register our new iPhones, the addition of our purchased AppleCare+ will be triggered by registration and added to the serial #. I think that's how it worked for my other two previous iPhones.

This would be for those who received the email offer & responded. receiving a confirmation email in return but not seeing the charge added to the Apple.com site purchase record yet. (This lis my circumstance.) Additionally, you can check your AppleCare+ status when you register & add it if it's not showing up.

If my 32GB 5 has an accident without AppleCare + in place, what will a replacement cost me?

Thanks for the info...
I just checked my status on apple, com and it appears that my phone is Preparing for shipment and now there is an AppleCare+ attached that is in "Processing". Must have been a bug in apple's system...
After seeing your post, I checked my status and saw the same thing. The :apple: system must have been overwhelmed with the volume of responses.

I like this result much better than what that I posted above. :)

Replacement... full retail price ($750?)
Depending on what form of accident, you may be able to get it fixed rather than replaced (i.e. screen cracks) for much cheaper.

EDIT: Worth mentioning that i've read ON HERE of people going into Apple and they allow a replacement for like $150. I read one story where they allowed the guy to buy applecare + and use one of the accidental replacements on the spot (also $150). I would imagine this is going to go away or become less and less common.

Just emailed them a 2nd time. AppleCare+ is my alternative to having a case so I hope they get it done quick.

It worked!! 5 minutes after emailing again it showed up in my order status page :)
